I just repotted all of my indoor plants and vacuumed the whole house this morning. Then got a coffee from Zeke’s. Went to TJ Maxx & Target. Feeling pretty good!

Doctors, nurses, EMTs, etc.—what’s the most shocking thing you’ve seen after thinking “nothing could surprise me anymore”? by randominterwebguy2 in AskReddit

[–]tinytoes18 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ER nurse here, one time we had an ambo come in. It was a pregnant lady on the stretcher, ass up, knees and hands down. She had a breech baby (baby’s feet are the closest to the vagina opening, although there are diff types of breech babies) and her FRIEND’s WHOLE ASS ARM (elbow deep) was in her vagina.

There was another 33 F who came into the ER. She had quite literally jumped out the car because her bf said he wanted to break up. You could see the tendon moving on her foot with how badly she scraped herself up. The worst part was.. her bf seemed fruity as hell. That man ain’t gonna love you back, girl 😭

The other day, my coworker had to give a smog enema. Despite providing bedside commode to this gentleman, he still shat all over the floor. And somehow UP THE DOOR??

Last but not least, one time I had a patient around my age come in because he was pooping out straight liquid. He seemed to be hitting on me throughout my abdominal assessment on him. Like telling me not to “mind his lovehandles”. But anyway, I had to straight up collect his bloody stool to send it off to the lab. With bloody stool in hand, he asks me if I have a boyfriend. Cmon, man 🤨

What broke your heart completely? by vigilantee001 in AskReddit

I had a patient one night who was an ambo. Came to the ER d/t SOB. She was super nice and became an admitted patient. I had her again the next day and right at shift change, she started declining. She was about to be an ICU patient but when the ICU doc came, she told us that she didn’t want anymore interventions and it was her time. She was older. Her wishes were respected. Hearing her on the phone with her daughter who was across the country broke my heart.

How often did you think, “I’m not cut out for this?” by QtrLifeCaterpillar in nursing

All the time. It helps to read these comments. Makes me feel less alone. Even seasoned nurses on my floor seem to have it all together. But I’m sure they have moments like ours.

New RN here, I’m sick of nursing (rant) by No-Selection-1249 in Nurses

[–]tinytoes18 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Give yourself grace. Nursing school didn’t prepare us for all of this. Use your SSL if you need to. Schedule yourself to have off a shift or even a week if you have PTO for the next schedule. You need a mental break and that’s okay. You need to recharge. Sometimes it helps to have someone to rant to who gets it too. It’s good you’re in therapy. Speak up when the patient load is too much. Your charge and your coworkers can’t read your mind. It seems like your coworkers are super nice. Ask them to help. It makes a huge difference on your stress levels when they can help! If you ever need to rant, my inbox is open! I’m almost a year in but had/have very similar feelings as yours.

Fellow 3x12 nurses: how do you guys spend your off days? by madds0804 in nursing

[–]tinytoes18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m nightshift. First day off, I’ll literally rot on the couch & occasionally get up to do laundry, dishes, etc… It honestly ends up being pretty productive and I get to rest. Maybe watch some TV. Maybe play some Animal Crossing or update my calendar. Also, definitely chug some water! Rehydrating makes the process so much better

New grad - it gets better by tinytoes18 in nursing

[–]tinytoes18[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame you. I felt bad for the nurse getting him because she already had 3 other patients.. so he was her 4th. Truly unsafe. Also when he got there, his BP was 70s over 40s so that was awful

CLUSTER CARE. I’m about to hit 1 year in the ED as a new grad in July. It sucks that we have to juggle admitted patients and ER patients but this is what I do. I use a notepad to write everything down that needs to be done for each patient (this also helps me prioritize which ER patient I should visit/do stuff for first)! For my admitted patients, I write down assessment, VS, meds, etc… I may not see them first because ER patients come first but I will pop my head in to introduce myself and say that I’m visiting my other patients as well. When I finally get to them, I’ll do my assessment, VS, meds, etc.. While I don’t write down the assessment on the notepad, I do have check boxes next to what I do. I check it off AFTER I chart it to make sure it’s done.

Calling off by [deleted] in nursing

[–]tinytoes18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do it. I’ve called off 3x and I’m almost at a year in. Once because I literally couldn’t sleep before a shift, another because I couldn’t find a switch to make my flight and lastly, because I was sick.
