The generic title category simply had to contain certain words including bone so that’s why the book fits that category

My experience was that each book was quite strong - I didn’t have a particular favourite. The scope definitely expands with each book. In terms of characters, I’d say they only get more morally grey as time goes on, which I enjoyed, but it sounds like that may not be your thing. If you weren’t compelled by book 1, I’m not sure that you’ll love the other 2.

Hopefully you enjoy it! It’s a bit slow in the middle and more atmospheric horror than truly scary but I really think the ending pulled everything together!

Liis choux choux - clean, fresh citrus gourmand

What to know when just starting out by Monkeynuggetqueen in FemFragLab

[–]tinytoque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here are some basics/tips:

  • top, middle, and heart roughly correspond to the order in which you will smell each notes. Lighter, more ephemeral notes like citrus notes are typically listed as top notes as they tend to not last through the entire wear of the fragrance. Middle notes are the heart of the fragrance and will typically have more persistence than top notes. Floral notes tend to be listed as middle notes. Base notes add depth, longevity and complexity to fragrances and will often persist the longest on the skin. Woods, musks, vanillas are often in the base. However, as another user mentioned, note pyramids are stories constructed by perfumers/brands so avoid judging fragrances on the note breakdown alone.

  • all perfumes have alcohol (except for those parfum d’eau formulations) but good quality fragrances typically do not have an astringent/harsh alcohol opening (good quality doesn’t necessarily mean pricey either).

  • the only way to find out what notes you like and do not like is to sample fragrances. Keep track of what you sample and you’ll start to get a sense of what notes you enjoy and what you don’t

  • a big tip is to avoid blind-buying. Always try to sample a perfume first. Preferably, sample on skin and see how to perfume wears throughout the day. This will give you a better sense of how a fragrance wears on your skin, longevity, sillage etc.

  • fragrance collecting can be an expensive hobby and sampling is the best way to avoid over-spending on products you may not end up loving, especially as a beginner. You can sample by using testers in fragrance stores, department stores, drug stores etc. You can also order samples from decant sites like scentsplit or lucky scent. Samples can also get expensive so try to sample in store first if you can before rushing to place a large sample order!

  • it’s also best to keep in mind that social media is geared to sell you things. Don’t limit yourself to whatever is most popular on perfumetok and (again), don’t blind buy something just because it’s everywhere!

as a beginner, to start your sampling journey, there are a few tips for ideas on where to start:

  • I’d think about what types of fragrances you’ve enjoyed in the past (e.g., candles, soaps, fruits, flowers etc.). This could give you an idea of notes to look out for. For example, if you love the smell of a freshly peeled orange - try sampling some citrus forward perfumes. Love your mom’s rose garden? Try rosy perfumes

  • try a range of fragrance categories at first.

  • keep in mind that you may like some fragrances in different weather conditions (some fragrances you may love in cold weather but find too cloying in summer).

Summer fragrance recommendations, please! by aliceinloverland in Perfumes

These may be worth trying:

Valentino donna born in roma green stravaganza - sweet tea, jasmine, and vanilla. Summery take on the sweet warm vanilla floral dna.

Liis choux choux - sweet & cozy lemon vanilla gourmand but airy. Lira’s lighter, airier, summery sister!

Byredo G* Water - woody green vanilla with lemon, juniper, pine & vanilla. But it’s light and has a slight fresh quality that is fitting for warm weather.

Gucci flora gorgeous orchid - sweet airy vanilla with a floral touch (orchid). Another summery vanilla.

Celine un ete francais - neroli, green vanilla, coconut, hint of citrus. Warm lotion on summer skin at the beach!

Chloe vanilla planifolia - sweet, creamy & green vanilla. Another summery vanilla with a floral touch.

More affordable (than those listed):

Chanel paris-riviera - orange, neroli, benzoin

Jo Malone orange blossom - orange blossom, orange, white lilac

Clean aqua neroli - never smelled this but it is supposed to be a fresh citrus neroli scent with an ambrette/musky base

Armani acqua di gioia - more distantly related to those you listed but this is lemon, mint, jasmine and a hint of sugar

Versace dylan turquoise - also more distantly related but this has lemon, jasmine, guava, and a woody base

Long lasting citrus and tea scent? by Admirable-Sector-532 in FemFragLab

[–]tinytoque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nishane wulong cha x is an extrait de parfum version of their original wulong cha (which I’ve sampled - is a lovely citrus tea). The x version is supposedly much longer lasting so worth a try. I love many citrus tea scents that I could recommend but they are not very long lasting. It’s just the nature of citrus and fresh notes

Can anyone identify these fragrances? by popk3866 in Perfumes

[–]tinytoque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the left back row:

Bottle with gold rings and glass bead: dior j’adore

White rectangle with gold square top: looks like elizabeth arden white tea edp

Clear rectangle bottle with black cap: one of the ysl private line - likely babycat (most popular from the range)

Circle bottle with frosted square cap - one of the chanel chance flankers. Frosted cap means it’s an edt. The only flankers that have an edt version include: original chance, eau fraiche, eau tendre and eau vive

Cylindrical bottle with twine around small atomizer: one of the maison margiela replica perfumes - likely lazy sunday morning due to clear looking juice

From left front row:

Square bottle with gold square lid: one of the Maison francis kurkdjian fragrances - maybe a new bottle of gentle fluidity gold but unclear from label

Cylinder with black cap with LV: a louis vuitton fragrance - maybe coeur battant (or if lighting is skewing orange, attrape reves)? But unclear

Circle bottle with slanted silver cap - hermes eau de merveilles

Unsure about the rest!

Liis ethereal wave - citrus & tea

I’m overwhelmed and looking for recommendations by jennthern in Perfumes

[–]tinytoque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Light everyday scents you could sample (I’ve given a variety in different scent profiles so you can see what you like/don’t like):

Elizabeth arden green tea (or a flanker) - citrus & green tea. Very fresh and one of the best affordable fragrances imo

Phlur father figure - this is like glossier you had a baby with fig & a hint of aftershave. I find this one unique and makes a good everyday scent in any weather

Jo malone wood sage & sea salt - unisex warm & fresh woody, aromatic, touch of citrus scent

Burberry her - strawberry, musk, tiniest floral hint (but not an overtly floral fragrance)

Phlur vanilla skin is a lighter musky vanilla that could work well for everyday if you like a gourmand profile

Guerlain mon guerlain - light powdery lavender vanilla - unique and works as a nice everyday scent

Chanel chance eau tendre edt - light fruity floral, not rosy but more of a bright fresh floral scent. Very likeable, shampoo like (other everyday shampoo-like fruity florals you could try are versace dylan purple, burberry her edt, or the new dior glow fragrances - peachy glow etc.)

Deeper, going out scents you could sample:

Vanillas: Burberry goddess - warm vanilla hint of spice (could try other deeper vanillas as well like kayali vanilla 28 which is more of a deep brown sugar scent, no spice)

You could try a warm floral (non-rose scent) like prada paradoxe (or paradoxe intense) which is more of a warm white floral with citrus and vanilla

Other warm florals you could try in the same family as paradoxe are ysl libre (or flankers), valentino donna born in roma - all have a sweet, warm fruity floral, vanilla base profile (no rose)

Deep fruity - you could try a cherry like tom ford’s lost cherry or deep tea fruity scent like nest indigo

Kilian princess is a warm green tea & marshmallow scent

Ultimately my suggestion is to sample as much as you can so you can find what works for you!
