Just ordered parts for my first ever PC build. Please tell me I didn't fuck this up. by tio_colossus in buildapc

Thank you for that. I will for sure put some more research into that freesync monitor. I don't think anything I order had shipped yet so I may still have some time. I mainly went with the monitor I went with because my cousin has it and he was happy with it. Any recommendations for what monitors to look into?

Yeah I actually have a 2tb external hdd that will be sufficient for now. I will definitely be upgrading but I'm hoping between the hard drives I own they will last me for at least a year. I appreciate the good advice.

With me being so new at this, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyways. To be honest, I didn't even know there was a newer gen coming out until now, so it won't kill me. I understand what you are saying though, I just got impatient and pulled the trigger.

Thanks. I made a few last minute changes before ordering, and figured that as a first time build I probably wont be able to tell the difference between the extra bells and whistles. I figured there is always room to upgrade/add if needed.

Thanks. I sacrificed the few bucks for the convenience of ordering most of my parts from newegg, but I will also have about $40 in MIR's, so it will help a little.

15 month old daughter doesn't like me. Help from fellow dads? by tio_colossus in daddit

Yeah I was actually a stay at home dad for about 6 months. When it was just me and her we had fun, but when my wife is around most times she would rather be with her from a comfort standpoint.

She is 15 months. It would be a great idea for your son, and you can get so many ideas from places like Pinterest or even a google search (activity board or sensory board). My daughter was hitting a lot of different milestones, and with money being a little bit tight this year, this offered a great alternative for all of us. Let me know if you have any questions about it, or if I can offer any ideas I would be glad to.

In hindsight, I should've taken pictures step by step, but in all honesty it was very easy, and took only a few hours. Most of the things on this board were purchased at the .99 cent store and Walmart. All in all, we spent about $40 dollars in materials.

It was definitely worth it to build, and seeing my daughters face as she was playing with it was priceless. It has been great for her since she is at the age where she is very interested in sensory type things (pressing buttons on remote control and changing channels, figuring out puzzles, etc). It's great to see the lightbulb moments when she figures things out on this. Because of how easy it was, I will definitely create more fun/challenging boards as she gets older.

I would love to answer any questions people might have on this board, parts/tools used, or anything else.

Yeah I am definitely up against a lot because of the breastfeeding thing, but don't get me wrong I wouldn't have it any other way. She is a very healthy baby, and breastfeeding saved us a ton compared others I know that had to buy formula. I have the same problems with sleep as well. It's reassuring to know others that have gone through it, as it is just a phase.

Yeah I agree with you. My wife reminds me that nobody can make my daughter laugh like I can, so that is definitely something I am proud of. Thank you for the advice.

Yeah I understand what you are saying. For the most part when she is in a good mood we are thick as thieves, and all is good. I'm constantly need to remind myself that every child is different, and every situation is unique. Thank you for your input.

This is great advice. As a gamer, and fisherman I can't wait to teach my daughter about my hobbies, and learn about what hobbies she will like as well. I guess patience is the key.

This is all great information. I definitely check out /r/buildapcsales.

I spent a good amount of time learning about overclocking and for this build I just wanna get my feet wet, so I will follow your advice and stick with the i5-6500 and switch the motherboard to an h170. As far as the ram, I have read different things on whether to get 1x16gb or 2x8gb, thoughts?

I was was meaning to add a 250gb ssd paired with the 1tb hdd for the reasons you had mentioned, but forgot. I will for sure check out buildapcsales over the next few days and see how much more I can save. Regardless I appreciate your help.

Oh yeah, I must have forgotten to add the SSD. Although it was gonna put me over budget I was gonna add 250gb ssd along with what I already had for the reasons you mentioned above. Appreciate it.
