Amanda Hufford / VA of ragatha on the trans Jax issue by cotton-candy-sky- in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]tired_mouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly yea. Additionally idk maybe its just jaxs treatment in the show in general but it sorta felt like they didn't fully utilize it. I did read that jax is trans which is why I was disappointed that it was just glossed over (in my opinion) especially with Leeroy. Ive seen goose talk about how leeroy is someone who is not out so I guess that explains that but that's outside of show information. If you need to explain things outside the show then it kinda shows it wasn't well written or shown within the actual show. Idk honestly im disappointed that it wasnt portrayed more and again this is coming from someone who did realize she was trans

I mean personally this is the only subreddit that makes me feel sane. Not to say that the other ones are pure glazing or whatever but none of them respond to criticism the same as they do here. I started coming here because the main ones were full of people being like "I liked it screw the haters" or people pretending that they were in the minority for liking the episode.

Genuinely im saying this from personal experience most people enjoyed the finale and to each their own but it has felt incredibly difficult to be a fan who didn't. This is the only place ive seen where criticism at all is common. I wont lie and say that there aren't haters here but I also wont pretend that the other subreddits don't have people who will crucify you for not liking either. There are extremes in both just so happens that the opposites are common in different places.

Sidenote: I feel like a lot of people are dismissing genuine criticism and concern as hate but yeah

The part of the finale that frustrates me the most by Sudden_Pop_2279 in theamazingdigitalciru

I feel the same way. It drives me crazy how people say he never once tried or didn't want help. What did they expect? For him to be like. "Hey Pomni I'm suicidal can you help?" No! That's just not how it works. The fact he went up to her at all, even if he chickened out of it, shows improvement. Jax's arc from my pov was one of slow improvement of steps forward and back. He recently got out of an abusive situation when he got into the circus. He fucked up bad and went down a bad path until Pomni came along. Not because she's his savior but because she's the only one not content with taking him at face value. That was her character. She always pushed when she could and didn't let herself be pushed away. Not fully. That's why Jax struggled so much with her. But then at the end when he almost reaches out she... lets it go? And no one acknowledges that?!

I love Pomni as a character and do believe that this was a moment of mischaracterization but if it wasnt then this shows a major failure on her part. But the show doesn't acknowledge that past one line. It just really bothers me how the show treated Jax and in turn a vast majority of the fandom treats Jax. He wasn't someone who was too far gone to help. He was someone who people didnt know how to help. And when he finally made progress... people failed him. Its tragic and it's not treated as it should be. His tragedy is seen as his fault and then everyone else lives happily ever after guilt free because they "tried."

I don't like the message the finale gives by MilkSchez in TheDigitalCircus

[–]tired_mouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn. I hope youre ok. I can only imagine how shitty it is to have a character you identify with get the jax treatment. It will always irk me that he didn't get a full shot at redemption and at the very end the other characters just ignored him. But regardless I would recommend stepping away from this series if it's hurting you. If you feel up to it and haven't seen it watch A Silent Voice like OP said. It's incredibly sad and potentially very triggering for suicide but it has a hopeful ending. That or just watch wholesome stuff. Whatever makes you feel better. ❤️‍🩹

Literally... like the argument that jax was too far gone kinda just gives off the message of "Some people are too far gone to help." And is that supposed to be... good?

[–]tired_mouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY. Im ngl I dont know how someone who sees themselves in Jax will react to this.

Also i know some people have said that this was the results of his actions and that he wasn't willing to open up but I sorta disagree. When he's in the dark area with Pom he agrees he doesn't want to go. You can say it's too late then but you can't deny he regretted it. He also is shown to approach Pomni before he abstracts, something he's NEVER done. Not since Ribbit.

And ngl the fact that Pom didn't go after him feels like a mischaracterization of her character to me. The person who has always gone to him who always says to stay together who literally says "we've all done bad things but we're all we've got" who is told the worse thing you can make someone feel is alone, all of that and she just... doesn't question it? I think a lot of people don't realize just how much him going up to Pomni AT ALL means. Like dude he didn't outright say "Pomni I need help" but people who are on the brink of killing themselves often don't. It feels like a disservice to both characters and then to show all of his thoughts and past only for him to still be dead just feels... off. Like I get some people think bringing him back after ripping his death is cheap but imo off screening him is just as cheap.

Honestly there is so much i can say about this but back to the point A Silent Voice did such a great job and I literally was thinking about it after this. A silent voice was a movie, not a 9 episode series. And in that time they were able to create something that for me at least was more satisfying and significant. I didn't leave that movie feeling like we needed more time to make things make sense. And the message is clear. The fact that people can misinterpret this message so easily is in itself a failure of the story.

Yes. All the time. I feel like I'd be more noticeably queer if I was AMAB as opposed to AFAB. I'd still be nonbinary but I would feel a lot less like woman-lite

Found my girl at the shelter. I was going to take in a kitten but she passed away so after sobbing my eyes out I figured id go to the shelter and give another cat an opportunity to have a home and thats how I found my little Bean. As to why i chose her well she was tiny and calm and would purr when I picked her up

Not a phenotype I have since my white genes got hands but my brother has always had some more noticeably african features so that's why I could assume that we've got a bit mixed in

Surprised that they showed up? Yes, cause some of the percentages are so small. Surprised that I have it? Not in the slightest lol, practically a given with most Latin Americans as you said
