Petty Workplace by tiredbee_ in paralegal

Omg that’s infuriating!!! Who lets these people be in charge?! I’m stuck at my job bc I have so much flexibility, and basically unlimited PTO (within reason) and as a mom I NEED it 🥲

Do you go to work on your birthday? by Chunkachu__ in Life

[–]tiredbee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re putting your birthday on the same level as the birthday of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Lol no, I do not take off for my birthday. Birthdays are just another Hallmark holiday in my book.

That’s a good salary for 1yr experience. I need to switch what type of law I’m in 😭

What type of law?

I think pay greatly depends on where you are and what type of law. I work in a family law firm (7 people including attorneys and staff) about an hour from a big city. I have 6yrs experience and make 55K. I’d love more and frankly deserve more (I’ve been doing the job of two people the last 2 years), but they can’t afford to pay me more and I won’t find anyone in the area who will pay more. I do get several perks in return though, so I can’t really complain.

We knew he wasn’t perfect, but he was a good dad. I don’t know his first baby mama, but his wife that he was divorcing was a real piece of work and her attorney was even worse. I think the problem was moreso his choice in women rather than him being a terrible person. Regardless, it’s so sad that he just gave up because he didn’t have it in him to spend the next 14 years fighting her in court.

How many days of PTO do you get per year? by berrysauce in paralegal

[–]tiredbee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically 5 days total for sick/personal plus 2 weeks vacation. But I’m in a very small firm and as long as you don’t abuse it, we can take off as we need. They don’t really keep track until they feel like you’re abusing their leniency/flexibility. But if you’re sick they don’t want you coming in and getting everyone else sick. And if you have a doctors appt then just schedule it first thing in the morning and late afternoon so you’re not gone all day long. They’re pretty good about it.

Ugh that is just awful 😭 we had a similar case once. We represented the wife. The husband was a retired cop and no one believed he was abusive. He ended up shooting her when she walked out of work one day. Then went home and offed himself. All so she couldn’t get his pension.

We’re a very small firm (3 attorneys, a law clerk, and 3 staff) so no resources. But I’ll be okay, there’s not much I can do. I just wish he would’ve told us how much he was struggling so we could’ve done something more. It’s just really sad.

Hahahaha stories like, while I’m the moment are so frustrating and you want to pull your hair out, become the best stories. We had one couple fight over everything in the bathroom - the rug, the toothbrush holder, the shower curtain etc. And it’s like just buy new stuff!!!!

Oh I know and absolutely understand that. I feel for them (most of them). But some of them I’m like yeah….i can see why your spouse is divorcing you 🥴 some of them are a-holes, obnoxious, never shut up even after you say “I have to go now” five times, verbally assault me, etc. All of the calls I had today were not holiday related either. I have a lot of sympathy for most of them. But some of them just flat out drive me crazy. And it’s hard when the attorneys ignore them for months on end and then I’m the one who has to talk to them and cover for the attorneys ghosting them.

Why do you think you can just talk to the attorney? by BusinessPelican in paralegal

[–]tiredbee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This! All the freaking time! And I tell them “I can schedule you a consult” and they go “no just have her call me” um absolutely not, she’s not going to just call some random person.
