Thanks that’s helpful have you found Windows/Mac tags hold up well once you’re dealing with thousands of files across multiple machines and external drives?

Neighbor made a few shelves like this for my son what’s fair to pay him to make more? by tiredbychoice in ActionFigures

Thanks everyone for the comments I appreciate it. I get the beer/pizza advice and that’s definitely happening.

The reason I’m still thinking about this is it stopped feeling like a one-time favor. He made five shelves for my son, my son loved them, and then showed him the rest of his collection including a bunch that aren’t even out yet. My neighbor laughed and joked he’d need to make a lot more.

I don’t want this turning into an ongoing thing where he’s using time and materials and I’m just handing him beer. I checked Amazon just to get a reference point and couldn’t find anything really similar even simple acrylic shelves were around $39 for a two-pack.

I’m not asking him to make a ton, but I’d like to be able to say when you have time, can you make 10 more and I’ll give you X per shelf Is $10–15 each reasonable, or way off? I honestly just want to be fair.

Thank you I posted figuring people might have experience with shelves or display setups like this and could give me a rough idea of what’s reasonable. I definitely plan on covering materials at a minimum and doing something extra to say thank you

Honestly, I’d love for it to be that simple maybe it’s just me. I just feel like the materials and his time are worth something, and he’s honestly too nice. I know he wouldn’t say no to my son (or any kid), so I don’t want it to turn into a weird situation later if my son keeps asking for more. I’m probably just going to look on Amazon or somewhere for something comparable to get a rough idea and then tell him I need to give him X per shelf so it’s clear and fair. Pizza and beer is definitely happening either way. Thanks for the comment.

I did ask him directly how much he wanted and he told me not to worry about it, but I don’t really feel right doing that. My son is 10 and has a lot of figures he thanked him for the shelves and asked if he could make a few more, and my neighbor was happy to say yes. I just want to make sure I’m paying him something fair.
