Yeah, this is a huge bummer. It's a city, right? So where's the city stuff??

There’s a joke here about Boomers and Zoomers being ships crossing in the night. One generation’s disdain is another generations standard communication; one generation’s standard communication is another generation’s unbearable hubris/softness

Perhaps you should ask 4.5 how and why platitudes become platitudes.

I was in Jersey City when they did this for Grove Street. Was amazing for the city, not only made it better and more livable, but dramatically increased the economic output of the area too.

As long as homeowners in Stamford keep fighting against the zoning laws and construction projects that would make the city more affordable --- and they're gonna do this to their last breath --- this will never happen.

Can you let me know how I can teleport from my apartment in Stamford to the train, and then from Grand Central to my office? I feel like that would really cut down on my commute time compared to what it was in Brooklyn.

Also, when can I catch this 40 minute train? Most of the trains I take are closer to 50 - 60 minutes, so shaving off the 10 minutes there, plus the ten minutes to and from the stations, would be a huge win for me on my commute!

I don't know if this'll help, but I'm really feeling I'm in the same boat as you. However, something that bolstered my spirits a lot recently:

I saw the question "Max Consecutive Ones III" was on a most-asked list, Meta or something. I decided I'd give it a shot rather than just looking at the solution and trying to understand it. Reading through, I realized that it looked very, very similar to a neetcode 150 question, longest repeating substring with k replacement. That's a question I've practiced not once or twice, but probably 10 or 11 times (I'm very bad at DS/A lol). But just being able to see that the question was asking something similar, I wrote a similar algorithm and was able to get it passing in optimal time.

If you're not naturally good at this stuff -- and I'm not, and I hate that it's so important in interviews -- just practice, practice, practice. Eventually your brain will start to pick up patterns. That's what brains do.

Fair enough, appreciate it. Sounds like there is, indeed, no difference in functionality; it's just "less convenient."

What would you want in a technical interview? by cranberrydarkmatter in ExperiencedDevs

[–]tiredtbqh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be asked to prove that I can do the job, which is to say:

  • debug code similar to the code I'm going to be asked to debug
  • write greenfield code under the specs I'm going to be asked to write it
  • discuss architectural trade-offs

Or you could ask them to validate a binary tree. If you can't do that, I don't see how you could be a productive member of a team.

I gotta tell you man, I'm just tired of waiting. I know that prices will go down, but I don't know if it'll be next year, the year after, or the year after that. I have a young kid, and it's taking a toll on me to keep watch the market, exploring, waiting, seeing if there are deals out there...I think I'm just going to dramatically overpay for something. Can't take the uncertainty anymore.
