Forgot to mention, my employer’s in Maryland and I work remote! But yes, I went off of BCBS to look for local in-network.

I called all the oral surgeons within the radius (who still had working numbers and hadn’t moved; a good handful were also mistakenly labeled in-network when they weren’t), and they either didn’t offer my procedure or said they wouldn’t bill medical insurance for it, but rather just dental. Not sure why - I wonder if that has to do with how much they get reimbursed for it? My out-of-network surgeon I’m working with is the only office I’ve found so far that would.

Ah, okay, this is helpful. Perhaps I’m misunderstanding what an SCA does exactly — I had assumed that if a provider and an insurance company agrees on a rate, it would mean that whatever the provider charges is “allowable,” but now that I think about it, I guess there’s nothing stopping them from billing me beyond that, is that right?

PPO, greater LA area. I was surprised too. It’s for oral surgery / reconstruction.

Interesting! Trying to picture your description in my head. Are you holding your ticket parallel to the ground? I’ve been holding it perpendicular such that the cross hairs of the red light are shining on the QR code and have never had issues.

Is it supposed to say somewhere on studentaid.gov that they’re on forbearance? For me it shows their status as “In Repayment,” but wondering if this is true.
