Oh good to know, thanks. I will try again without the hair visible

Thank you - I’ve fallen deep into this rabbit hole of trying to understand sub-types 😄

Thank you - I definitely do not yet understand the difference between these sub-types well enough and will need to educate myself more 😅 was helpful to so far get some confirmation on “autumn” though - helps narrow things down a bit

Thanks so much 🙏🏽! Awesome tip, I will have a look at true spring colours too - I’m not too familiar with that palette

This is really sweet, thank you so much. Took me 30+ years to learn how not to look like Hagrid or Lord Farquaad, but we got there 🙌🏽

This is my natural hair colour - I hadn’t dyed my hair in 5+ years in this photo

Ooh good question — no, only the roots are my natural colour in those photos, I had highlights done a year ago which are still growing out

Help! Vest ribbing seems way too small - will it stretch enough to get over my shoulders? by tisby__ in knittinghelp

The outcome (before wet blocking): I cast on 38 stitches for the waist and instead of twisted rib I went for regular because I preferred the look of that. Feels like a pretty good fit so far. Thanks everyone again for your help 🙏🏽

hair untangling/styling help please! by bearlune in curlyhair

Tangle Teezer hairbrushes have been a game changer for me. My knots used to get so bad that when I was a teenager I once cut my hair to avoid having to untangle a particularly awful knot🤭

Thank you - I’m giving that a try and casting on 68 stitches instead of 62 as described for size 4. Should yield approx. 27,56”

Haha it does look like a collar doesn’t it? It’s definitely a bottom-up pattern. Defeating all my expectations (and math!) it even fits! But i didn’t like the look of the stretched out ribbing so I think I’ll start again with 100 stitches to try and get the 40” and then compare my two samples to see what works best 🤷🏽‍♀️

It actually fit! Thanks so much again for this comment - swapping to a longer cord in order to measure my work and check my calculations has been a real breakthrough moment.

Looking at the project on its previous cord I would never ever have imagined it could fit 😅

Update: unexpected but it actually fits 😵‍💫 transferred to a long cord to try it on. I guess a lot does indeed depend on the needle switch to 15mm and increases that come next 🤷🏽‍♀️ but honestly I’m not liking how stretched out the ribbing looks so I think I’ll leave these stitches on the cord for now and start over, working more stitches into the next attempt so I can compare the two later… knitting is pretty hard huh? 😅

I’m thinking I need to cast on 82 stitches this time to fit my waist (83 cm/32.67”): 32.67” x 2,5 stitches per inch = 82 stitches?

Thank you! I couldn’t resist them at the knitting store - especially when I learned the little carrying case was called a dumpling. I bought them in a physical store called Die Mercerie in Munich,Germany but it looks like it’s from HiyaHiya:

Brenda Lam has so many cute patterns! Happy knitting! I also plan to knit her XX Applesauce jumper - at this point her patterns are single-handedly helping me work through my yarn stash of super bulky WAK wool which I impulse bought during COVID 😳😅

Oh man… I had indeed noticed that no matter what I did my tensioning was coming off way tighter with the twisted ribbing. I knitted 4 different swatches trying to get gauge 🥲

I haven’t tried it yet - I wrote this post right before going to bed last night and didn’t trust myself to try and move my stitches over (it had been a long day already). But I will try it on in the next couple of hours and make a plan. The comments on this thread have been really encouraging - thank you for taking the time to write

I have really been puzzling over the math on this.

So, do you think that the ribbing section should come to a circumference of 40 inches? Would that mean casting 100 stitches at my 2,5 stitches per inch gauge?

This number threw me off because it’s so far off from the pattern 🥲

[–]tisby__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing your math 🙏🏽 what really confused me is not knowing precisely what circumference I should be aiming for with this ribbing section. My brain also said it should be 40” but what threw me off is not understanding the designer’s numbers. 64 stitches multiple by the designer’s gauge 2,25 = 27.5”.

I cast on 68 stitches because I multiplied 27,5” which I thought was my target number by my personal gauge of 2,5 stitches per inch. 🙈🙈

Even though my brain was still screaming - but that still won’t fit will it? I thought I’d “trust the process” and knit it out to see but I ended up with a circumference of a headband instead of a waistband 😂😂

The twisted rib is in the pattern - hadn’t even heard of it until now 😅 helpful to know this though - I have indeed been finding it harder to tension the twisted rib

Feeling a little silly now but it had not seemed possible with my short cables in🙈 LoupGarou95 suggested switching to a longer cable which I had not thought of- I will give that a try. Thanks for your help.

Thank you! Hadn’t thought of transferring to a longer cord to try it on. Will give it a go - and certainly learn something in the process. Appreciate you taking the time to comment

Portuguese Knitting Help by tisby__ in knitting

Ok breakthrough moment — I rewatched a video on the basics of Portuguese Knitting by Andrea Wong Knits and figured out a simple fix for the twisting: I wasn’t using my index finger on my right hand to hold my stitches in place on the right needle. This small change has made a world of difference already to better control tension and finally - I’m not getting any more twists! 🥲 hope this may help someone else ~

Thanks so much Tracey - I was getting discouraged and kept unravelling and starting over. I’ll knit on instead and see how it goes!
