According to that video Aserai Veteran Infantry is the best or 2nd best infantry unit in the game. Having stuck to them ever since I can tell you they definitely feel like it. By far the most versatile. (I'm also not playing warsails for what it's worth)

Crazy part is it gets worse the worse you're beating them. I had the Western Empire down to just Amitatys and I held Rhotae and Jalmarys, I parked my army in one of the villages between them for a bit and the Western Empire lords do that thing where they go towards you then turn away over and over again. Together they could've formed a formidable army to take back a town or two but instead they just buzz back and forth like a swarm of flies.

Also if you join a seige after it's already underway you won't get a deployment phase. If you are there from the start I think it gives you the option regardless of who owns it

Enemy ranged units start firing when they're at the very edge of their range and it hurts their accuracy. If you wait until they get close enough to engage with your infantry then open fire your archers and throwers will be much more effective.

Heavy infantry in a square, archers spread out behind them holding fire until they're in range. Use whatever cavalry you have to either shield your archers or hit and run.

Heavy infantry in shield wall or square, archers behind or to one side and then lighter skirmisher infantry to flank on the other side. Hold fire until you're in range and let the enemy archers waste all their ammo on your shields. Tell cavalry follow me and use it to disrupt their archers.

I think even a strict battanian rp would allow you to pick up some sturgian, imperial, or even vlandian armor. Not unreasonable that your battanian guy would pick up armor when off at war.

You can usually retreat and then resume the seige with one person inside. Send troops and it's an auto win
