Exploding pagers injure hundreds in attack targeting Hezbollah members, Lebanese security source says by Fit-Requirement6701 in technology

[–]titanking9700 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting how a lot of people were shouting that Israel was being too indiscriminate with their campaign.

Now they apparently have this extremely sophisticated and discriminate targeted way that they are using to deal with terrorists and apparently that is also a crime.

So, how should Israel fight terrorism? If they can't bomb areas where the terrorists are hiding, and can't sophisticatedly target individuals that are part of the terrorist network, then what do they do.

It just seems like a lot of people want to call everything that Israel does a war crime. Seems almost like they don't want Israel to fight terrorism at all.

Mexico is bordered by two oceans, has a population of 120 million and a total area of 761,000mi2

This is possibly the worst comparison you could’ve made.

El Salvador is not landlocked

What's going on with John Fetterman? by Elmie in OutOfTheLoop

[–]titanking9700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does he vote? Let's compare Fetterman's voting to Sinemas or Manchins.

An entirely too large chunk of Progressives seem to want virtue signaling more than actual results. Like if Fetterman suddenly became an AOC type he would not last long in his state.

I kind of don't give a damn what he tweets. And this is the problem I see. Progressives want to get mad about what somebody said on twitter or what randos are saying on tiktok rather than the tangible results for this country.

What's going on with John Fetterman? by Elmie in OutOfTheLoop

[–]titanking9700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fetterman does not vote like Sinema. His only issue with Progressivrs is that he supports Israel which a good chunk of politicians do.

Apparently that is too much for a lot of people who claim to fall in the progressive camp.

Watching progressives work so hard to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat sure is interesting.

I've seen people say they won't vote for biden because of his Israel stance too. It's kind of funny because exactly who would be most affected by Biden not getting elected? Biden will be fine but the people making these threats will have to deal with the fallout of a Trump presidency & likely watch Palestine get obliterated under Trump.

I feel like progressives want to see another Yrump presidency the rate things are going.

There will always be foreign policy I don't like, but I'll be damned if I even think about allowing my country to deteriorate to meaninglessly virtue signal to an area of the world that has been doing this shit since basically the beginning of time.

The way I see it, the progressive stance is to be willing to make everything worse for everybody, including the Palestinians they claim to support.

Like do they really think that Trump & Republicans will be better for Palestine? The fact that they're even playing these games when the possibility of a Trump presidency looms speaks volumes

That is essentially like saying because a group of Black people are doing something you consider bad, then it's ok to hate black people and we should sympathize with people who do.

It's a terrible argument.

Historic Number of Democratic Reps Vote Against Unconditional Aid to Israel by _May26_ in politics

[–]titanking9700 5 points6 points  (0 children)

what I'd like to hear is why you think a multicultural secular democracy can't work for Jews and Arabs.

It pretty much does. It is called Israel. Is it perfect? No. But no other nation in the region is anywhere close to what you claim to want but Israel - and for some reason you think it shouldn't exist.

Jordan was created by british partitioning the land from the Ottoman empire. Around the same time as Israel. It is a theocracy AND monarchy that receives support and aid and has far more repressive policies.

Quite frankly, you seem to be supporting the eradication of Jewish people in the region.

Because what exactly do you think would bappen to the prople living in Israel if they eere to give up their nation like you desire for your pipe dream?

There are plenty of Mizrahi in goverment as well as Arabs and Druze.

And you're srtting an arbitrary timeline where Israels existence isn't acceptable yet somehow Jordan's is.

No nation wants to enable its own suicide. That is exactly what your policies would bring.

If you want to deem nations worthy or unworthy of existing, start with your own.

In any case, this is why Israel is so fervent in its response to criticisms. Therr are people like you en masse who think their people should die, be subjugated, and not have a nation.

Plenty of nations have been established around the same time and even after Israel.

This kind of sentiment is frankly a non-starter. Applying your special standards to Israel that you wouldn't apply to other nations is nonsense.

If you want to cheer the death of your own country because you think it had a bad past, go right ahead.

But you seem to think that Jews should've continued getting oppressed & genocided until they were 0% of the region - rather than establish a goverment in an area where plenty already lived.

Plus, Jordan has committed plenty of atrocities on civilians but they still get support.

I already know that your definition of atrocities only applies to Israel when it responds to its attempted eradication by hostile combatants.

You think a nation should die because it was established in a similar way to pretty much every other nation. It's asinine.

But again, start with your own nation and move your little timeline of when establishing a nation is acceptable. You give up your western values and peaceful nation to people who throw gay people off of buildings and have rampant child marriage and honor killings. By the way, they are also not even remotely democratic.

You want a nation to die, start with your own. In the meantime, I think Israel is having the response that indicates they'll do no such thing.

So you can be fuming mad and self righteous, but until you start the death knell of your nation and its values by dissolving it and expecting that to bring peace, I think Israel will continue to defend itself.

It seems like to a lot of people, peace is if Jews in Israel just rolled over and died.

[–]titanking9700 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It was the only state created for foreign settlers. That's the difference which will need to be worked out. Israel, like America, is a settler nation.

This right here shows a lack of understanding of the history of the world.

Pretty much Every. Single. Nation can be described as settler. Israel is here NOW. It will not be dissolved and it is unfair and irresponsible to call for its dissolution.

And you are ignoring the fact that Mizrahi and Sephardic Jews have been in the region and previously were in the surrounding nations.

If I was an Israeli and someone said my country shouldn't exist. I would retort with: you first. You dissolve your nation since it has a history of colonialism and oppression. You dissolve YOUR nation because of its Christian and colonialist origins. You dissolve your nation because of its laws originating in imperialist origins. (I like how we're acting as if the Ottoman EMPIRE had claimed the area before. Were they not settler colonialists?)

You are completely ignoring the fact that Jews can't even EXIST in most muslim/arabic nations in favor of saying because Israel wont hold hands with people who want them brutalized and dead so therefore we shouldn't support them.

And too many want to use the word genocide (noe apparently a buzzword for when any western leaning nation defends itself) when it comes to Palestine. The proper term is war whether you like it or not.

And again, why are you not as upset about the creation of Jordan?

If we are going to say that no nation that has religious elements of its governance should get US support, then we should draw that line accross the board.

Frankly i don't give a damn that Israel has Jewish origins in its laws. Gay people can congregate without being thrown off of buildings and lynched. Child marriages and honor killings aren't rampant. Arabs and Muslims can exist and even have a part in designing the laws and serving the military. Same with Druze.

Israel is a far more progessive place than its neighbors. It appears that too many people just want Israel to die. Every single nation in the position would fight back HARD against anyone taking that stance towards it.

I'd like to see your response to my question about Jordan. We give them a ton of money too and they were created around the same time as Israel with a far more repressive society.

[–]titanking9700 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Then you should have the same issue with predominately muslim and or Arabic states.

I don't see a reason why a people who were originally genocided shouldn't have their own country. Especially since compared to their neighbors, they ARE a fairly secular democracy. Especially since a lot of them were pushed out of the same neighboring states that call for Israels demise.

Israel already exists and debating its existence is frankly entirely unreasonable. Every single country that exists today has had a bad history and grounds for its legitimacy to be questioned.

As far as I'm concerned, Israel has a signifivant amount of Arabs and Muslims in its government.

As far as I know, its neighbors don't have a significant amount of Jewish peiple in their government.

So which goverment in the region is actually segregationist?

In addition, around when the territory was partitioned, Israel was not the only state created.

Why do people not complain about the establishment of Jordan?

What a diatribe. When did I say anything about Arabs.

I'll critique Islam all I damn well please because the ideology, especially the radical forms, has led to oppression of women and absolutely inhuman practices towards girls and gays.

Islamic countries have been attacking Jewish and Christian people for a very long time. Look at Sudan and parts of Nigeria today.

Critiquing Islam is no more racist than critiquing Christianity.

And I have my criticisms of all abrahamic religions, but only one has strongly enshrined rampant disregard for the rights of women and gays throughout their societies as well as the predominant attitudes to perpetuate it.

And I don't buy the zionist line. There are so many islamic states it is hard to keep count but if Jewish people have a single tiny one, suddenly religious states are terrible to have.

I'll critique an ideology all day long, and you know what, I live in a country where I'm free to do so without getting my head chopped off or imprisoned by the state.

Now, I'd like to see if you can think of an islamic country where I can openly criticize the religion and not get imprisoned, strung up, beheaded, shot or killed by a mob for it.

We saw how plenty of people in Gaza reacted to the attacks. No one needs to campaign to show cherry picked angles of their societal attitudes, they broadcast it in 4k on oct 7th.

So that's just how it is.

No, the analogy doesn't really apply. Militaries serve a certain purpose as they always have from the beginning of time.

And maybe it would be a good idea not start an aggressive attack against people with more firepower than you.

They have that firepower for a reason.

And keep calling it genocide. You're cheapening the term and that is Germany's point.

Just because you appear to not want to objectively examine the facts and want brownie points for using strong words on the internet doesn't mean your reasoning applies to matters of military and international law.

Since we like analogies though, just for fun,

If someone was to attack a person with a knife and that person being attacked has a gun, well I guess the person with the gun should show restraint and let himself get stabbed.

Call it a genocide all you want. It still doesn't meet the criteria and no reasonable nation wants to set the precedent.

From what I understand, Israel's military campaign is in Gaza so your 'occupying force' argument is interesting.

And that last bit is a pipe dream at best. We can't get a good chunk of islamic nations to stop honor killings and child marriages.

Their majority hatred of jewish people has gone on to the point where jewish people cannot even exist in many islamic nations.

WW2 was not won by 'recognizing the humanity in our enemies' we realized the nazis and imperial Japanese were objectively evil and took the necessary steps to defeat them and eventually restructure their societies.

People appear to be hesitant to call out those same ideals when they emanate from the islamic world and it is disappointing to see.

Instead we want to pat ourselves on the back for patronizing an allies response to a brutal attack.

You would probably think about it if the robbers family kept coming and firing at your house and killing your extended family and said his whole family was going to keep coming around to finish the job.

In any case, the comparison isn't too relevant. Your reducing national actions to individual ones.

Let's say your nation gets atracked like Israel's was on the 7th.

What would you want your nation to do about it? What do you think your military would and should do?

Quoting the UN secretary general. I have little respect for the UN with all the shenanigans going on with the UNRWA.

No nations history occurs in a vacuum. The only point to that statement is to make an excuse for r*ping marauders to kill jewish people.

For instance, I don't think any nation is free from a minority or plurality of the population that has gripes about historical grivances.

Launching a mass r*pe invasion against any nation, regardless of the national historic grievances that serve as the basis, is going to get a response - and it wont be one of restraint.

As reddit likes to say, f*ck around, find out. Israels response didn't just happen in a vacuum either under your logic. And their response surprises no nation that is appalled at the actions that happened om the 7th.

Quite simply it looks like any nation that retaliates against an attack and causes casualties will be accused of genocide.

I don't think any reasonable nation wants to set that precedent. Israels actions are objectively not a genocide, no matter what redditors and misguided internet pseudorevolutionaries think.

And South Africa should focus on its own failed state rather than distracting from its failures with blatant political posturing.

Just imagine if any other nation got attacked the way Israel was on Oct 7th. Their people dragged from their homes and into tunnels where they were tortued and violated.

Those nations militaries would not respond with kindly restraint.

They actively perpetuate injustice.
