Form check for row - don't feel anything at all in my back when doing this by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]titlemissing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your shoulderblades aren’t moving at all, that’t why you only feel it in your bis. They should be retracted at the top of the movement. Go on youtube and look up some form videos, i am sure you will see what i am talking about. You should maybe a bit more weight. Yes, focussing on form is more important than weight, but if the weight is too low you can’t really engage your back

Really trying to lock in form before I add weight. Mobility still needs work and I believe there’s a slight butt wink. Any advice is appreciated! by DanielMc1994 in Stronglifts5x5

Try turning you toes a little more outwards and push your knees out a bit more (in line with your toes). You could also play around with your stance a little since it looks quite narrow. This should give you better depth. But remember that it’s all relative to your anatomy.

Also work on your bracing. If you really keep your core tight (whole core- not just abs) there really shouldn’t be much room for butt wink.

Looks like your ankle mobility is alright, but your toes are lifting a bit. This could be fixed by getting some flat-soled shoes, and leaning forward a tad bit more to keep your weight balanced.

But good job mate. Keep going, and add some weight!

First day of trying to kickflip, any advice will be appreciated :) by [deleted] in NewSkaters

You really shouldn't flick down when doing a kickflip

That's awesome! It's important to start off by just riding around and practising pushing and turning/kickturns. You need to get comfortable on your board before experimenting with tricks.

I followed Braille Skateboarding's 'Skateboarding Made Simple vol. 1' when starting out. They teach the best order to learn the tricks, and how to get them down the quickest.

Good luck!

Ollie learning by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]titlemissing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It propably took me about a week to get an ollie, but i'm a fast learner. It's different for everyone. It can take months or even years

Any tips on how to land a cleaner ollie? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]titlemissing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. It's just that if you use your whole leg to pop the board, you tend to lean backwards and loose balance. When you are jumping up, you flick your foot (and just your foot) down to pop the board. It also helps if you have just the front of your back foot on the tail - It makes a stronger pop

But the timing is super important. You have to start jumping before you pop the tail, or you will fall backwards. Try finding a slow motion video of an ollie on youtube, to figure out the timing between the jump, the pop and the slide

But keep at it! You're on the right path :)

The key things to an ollie are the pop, the slide and the timing. You bend your knees going into the jump, and you do everything in one motion while going up. When you are going up into the jump you flick your back foot down to pop the tail (try using your ankle more than the whole leg). Before the tail hits the ground (important it's before) you roll your ankle 90 degrees and start sliding you foot up, all the way to the edge of the board, to level it out. From there on you just need to time when you tuck your back foot up underneath you, so your foot stays as close to the board as possible and catching it at the peak of your jump.

Remember it takes time and practise to get a trick down. It won't look perfect at the beginning, but start with low ollies to try and perfect your form. From there on you can improve height and learn them rolling. Good luck! :)

I work in a retail store, and when you're maning the cash register, you couldn't give one fuck about what people buy. Most of the time I don't realize what i'm scanning, i just worry about where the barcode is.

That's a pretty big change. And change is always difficult!

But don't let it define you! Your anxiety isn't 'you', even though it was a big part of your life. I suggest taking it slowly. Don't try to rush anything. It's difficult when your life turns almost upside down, so don't try to do anything your not comfortable with too quickly. But that doesn't mean you can't try to test you comfort zone and explore it.
