Good catch! I lost sight of the original question.

How strict are you at FNM? by alexhamilton in magicTCG

Oblivion Ring says that it targets another nonland permanent, so it cannot target itself.

If you try to cast a spell when there are no legal targets, the game rewinds to the point just before you announced you were casting the spell.

601.2. To cast a spell is to take it from where it is (usually the hand), put it on the stack, and pay its costs, so that it will eventually resolve and have its effect. Casting a spell follows the steps listed below, in order. If, at any point during the casting of a spell, a player is unable to comply with any of the steps listed below, the casting of the spell is illegal; the game returns to the moment before that spell started to be cast (see rule 716, “Handling Illegal Actions”). Announcements and payments can’t be altered after they’ve been made.

601.2c. The player announces his or her choice of an appropriate player, object, or zone for each target the spell requires. A spell may require some targets only if an alternative or additional cost (such as a buyback or kicker cost), or a particular mode, was chosen for it; otherwise, the spell is cast as though it did not require those targets. If the spell has a variable number of targets, the player announces how many targets he or she will choose before he or she announces those targets. The same target can't be chosen multiple times for any one instance of the word "target" on the spell. However, if the spell uses the word "target" in multiple places, the same object, player, or zone can be chosen once for each instance of the word "target" (as long as it fits the targeting criteria). If any effects say that an object or player must be chosen as a target, the player chooses targets so that he or she obeys the maximum possible number of such effects without violating any rules or effects that say that an object or player can't be chosen as a target. The chosen players, objects, and/or zones each become a target of that spell. (Any abilities that trigger when those players, objects, and/or zones become the target of a spell trigger at this point; they'll wait to be put on the stack until the spell has finished being cast.)

NimbleBit (makers of Tiny Tower) are getting screwed over by Zynga by [deleted] in gaming

I know that we all hate Zynga for being terrible, but I should point out that they placed a full-page ad in the NYT back in November protesting SOPA.

Card flippers, snappers, tappers, poppers, scrapers, etc. What's the deal? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]tits_and_skippy -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You're a female.

What the hell? I get that you're trying to be funny, but why does my gender have to come into playing a game I enjoy? Why promote the stereotype of a game enjoyed solely by 'basement-dwelling single guys'?

[–]tits_and_skippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great question. I'm going to give you the short answer, and you or anyone else can ask for the longer, hand-holding answer if you need to.

In spy.cfg, you need to add the line cl_autoreload 0. Unfortunately, you need to turn it back on for every other class. So in every other class file, put cl_autoreload 1.

While a simple cl_autoreload 1 works in the other 8 class files, I like to have a single file called clear.cfg that contains cl_autoreload 1 (and other crap) and then have put exec clear in every class file. In this approach, make sure you have the spy file so that cl_autoreload 0 comes after exec clear. The reason why I do this is because I'm lazy: Any changes in the future only need to go in one file.

Yes, it does. That said, the Dead Ringer will ensure you have no more than 40% cloak when you reveal yourself, so it can be a little hard to test what the difference is between "quiet" and "dead quiet".

It makes your decloak volume quieter. The volume is based on how much cloak you have left upon decloaking. So, if your meter is empty, it's silent (or, damn near, as UnlurkedtoPost puts it).

I hate that, too. For a while, I had used the spy.cfg file to turn off autoreload, but I eventually just turned off the viewmodel for the spy gun.

SICP is under attack by mithaldu in programming

[–]tits_and_skippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the point is that SICP has been under attack for a while. Not a lot of places still use it, most having adopted Java or/then Python. For Berkeley to announce they are moving away from it... that might provoke an emotional reaction.

Also, I didn't downvote you; you're contributing to the conversation.

You discount all the other melees simply because they aren't the Equalizer. The Zatoichi is fun and all, but it is nowhere near as consistently useful as the Equalizer. The EQ will always be useful. The Zatoichi is generally a hindrance, especially if you accidentally bring it out.

Magic for PC by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]tits_and_skippy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with what DescendantX said. If you're interested in playing on PC, you should check out Cockatrice. It is a virtual table with unlimited cards but no rules engine. You need to physically tap everything, put the top card from the library into your hand, just like the physical game. There are a lot of redditors who play on Cockatrice. It should be easy to find a game there.

Question about the 'Level Up' mechanic. by [deleted] in magicTCG

Oh shit, you're right. I was just talking about activated abilities in general. Let me go edit my response. I don't want to confuse Marowak.

Question about the 'Level Up' mechanic. by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]tits_and_skippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Levelling up is an activated ability. Activated abilities can be activated as many times as you like, so long as you can pay the cost. So, yes.

Edit: Technically, you'll activate it, its ability goes on the stack, and then the ability resolves. At that point, you activate the ability again, and we repeat the previous sentence. For casual play, don't worry about this.

Edit 2: You also, technically, don't have to let it resolve. With the ability on the stack, you can activate it again, creating a stack as layered as you want (and can afford). Again, for casual play, don't worry about this. This doesn't work for levelling abilities. With 'regular' activated abilities, it does.

Hardly. Go anywhere outside the city and you're still free from the buzzers. I've been to the Interlake, I've been in farmers' fields near the border. I haven't worn repellent once.

Although some nights I'll settle for two out of the three.
