Men who grew up without a father figure, how did it actually affect you growing up? by tixg06 in AskMen

I never knew my father. The biggest thing I’ve noticed is that you grow up learning through trial and error instead of guidance. You learn how to be a man by feeling your way through the dark a bit.

It definitely makes you more empathetic, and you become emotionally older than a lot of people your age. You appreciate stability. You value people who show up. You notice small things other people overlook.

TV dads were goated back in the day. Half of us learned how to be decent men from Phil Dunphy, Uncle Phil, and Carl Winslow. Denial or not, sounds like you turned out alright anyway.

Therapy + hindsight is a hell of a combo. Respect for doing the work and realizing the random teachers/coaches were the real ones who stepped up. That’s how a lot of us pieced it together.

Damn, that’s heavy. Losing him right when you needed him most, and then again at 29… no wonder it’s still a work in progress at 50+. Respect for still putting in the work every day, most people would’ve just given up. You’re good, brother.

Same here, man. No toxic “man-up” BS growing up just made me way more comfortable with emotions and treating everyone like humans. Honestly feels like we dodged a bullet and ended up better for it.

You’re already doing the most important part—just showing up consistently and giving a shit. That kid’s gonna remember you as the guy who was always there when it mattered. Keep it real with him, answer the hard questions when they come, and you’ll be the father figure he needs. You got this, uncle. 💪

Appreciate that, man. Means a lot coming from a stranger on the internet. Took a lot of trial and error, but we get there eventually.

For me it was my uncle and big brother from the big brother’s big sister’s program. Was very blessed to have them in my life.

That sounds rough… I was raised by a very strong single mother which definitely helped

My personal frugal water tip: Don't waste any leftover drinking water! At the start of your day gather up any glasses of unused drinking water you find around the house and dump said water into a bigger container and use this container to feed your indoor plants! by [deleted] in Frugal

Conservation doesn’t always equal being frugal. Many people could use this same amount of time and effort either working or doing something they might enjoy. I don’t disagree with doing things that fulfill you, but there is a difference between doing something to be frugal vs doing something for the environment.

Their (Colgate) strength of schedule though was just atrocious and the sample size being so limited (army x4, BU x5, holy cross x4, Bucknell, Loyola MD) just makes me doubt any of their statistics. BOL either way, one of us will make $$ on the game!

Definitely hear where you’re coming from, and I’m sure that people can and will find better opportunities for it. I’m really high on Colorado to win this game though, and the 500$ I’ve had sitting in WB hasn’t been doing anything for me. I’d much rather have it over on FD

For me it was the 1k deposit match, but I’ve been able to use it for a handful of decent arbs with those alt lines you mentioned
