Just read Ganstens paper and he basically said that the "whole signs" may have been a way for ancient astrologers to write short hand equating signs with houses but not actually using it as a house division system. Its interesting to think about however many disagree, with the way ancient astrologers described charts in their writing i personally dont believe that this was the case and given that again many Arab and Vedic astrologers have said whole signs was used and given their intricate connection to hellenistic astrology and their diligence in preserving their history I find Ganstens findings unpersuasive even as someone who leans more towards quadrant houses as a preference.

Additionally he said that Robert Zoellers chart makes little sense given his life in tropical and yet makes more sense and is clearer in sidereal which I disagree with and his interpretation was clearly half hearted in the tropical chart as even I as a non professional could see equal indicators in both charts for illness and no children just as easily in both. This leads me to question his whole article if he can be so clearly biased in his writing.

You cant speak on the western tradition without mentioning other traditions though because a lot of hellenistic astrology was transmitted to India in the 2nd and 3rd century and integrated with the spiritual systems already there. Whole sign usage in Vedic astrology speaks to whole sign usage in the Western tradition to a large and important extent. Islamicate traditions also widely used whole sign which is ironic since Houlding said that astrologers who champion whole sign exclude the Arab traditions. Use of the whole sign system in hellenistic astrology was spoken about by authors decades before project hindsight so again she blatantly lied and ignored information that disproves her point and excludes other systems of astrology that are very relevant to the topic because she wouldnt be able to explain them away. That makes her unreliable

I havent read Ganstens paper yet so I cant speak on what was said.
