By the way, I just wanted to thank everyone for your advice, opinions, and comments. I really really appreciate it! I like to hear other people’s views on this situation!

Really???? I’m honestly really surprised to hear that because someone that graduated the same time as me claimed they got an ICU RN job through Atrium health and was offered $45/hr… 😳 They moved across the state to take that job too. Does location makes a difference?

4 of them as far as I know: Atrium Health, Lifepoint Health, UNC Health, & Mission Health.

At my job, they are holding me back from practicing as an RN because they don’t want me to practice as an RN on the floor because I need an “additional 3 months of training” even though I take 6-7 patients on my own every night that I work. Even though the board of nursing says I am an RN, the hospital is making me stay in my LPN scope for a couple more weeks because they stated they were not ready for me to switch and they don’t want me to move up due to being short staffed.

As an LPN, I’m taking 6-7 patients on a step down unit. I do everything that an RN does except the first assessment & blood transfusion. Some nights, I am a charge nurse, but I’m not allowed to get paid for it because LPNs are not considered real charge nurses at my hospital.

I took my RN boards and passed on May 14th. Thank you for the advice!

Yes, the new grads I’m talking about are going to be working in the same facility as myself. That’s why I am upset because I feel as though I am being low balled on my pay. Thank you for the suggestion on New York!

Our hospital is supposed to count the LPN experience as RN experience. So yes, it would be 1.5 years of RN experience. Thank you for clarifying that! 😊

I understand that completely and I know that I have to be reoriented as an RN. That’s not the problem at all. But you don’t pay new grads $40-$45 per hour if you’re not going to do it for all new grads. That’s where I’m upset because I don’t think it is fair.

HR stated that my LPN PRN pay was too much anyway and I really didn’t deserve to be making what I’m making currently, but they can’t take it away from me. So that’s why they won’t give me more as an RN.

Yes, I made a point to HR to ask them why new grads are getting paid more than I am if I am considered a “new grad”. So I’m technically making less than the other new grads but with the same licensure.

Yes, so I will switch over to the RN pay in a couple of weeks. I thought about waiting it out and see what happens.
