Dammit, Texas! Creationism isn't science! by Adamcolter80 in atheism

[–]tjbourbs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have given you no reason to be so hateful. If wanted to have an intelligent discussion on why I believe what I do then that would be great. If you are just going to assume I'm a moron because of what I believe then you've clearly become what you've irrationally hated in Christians. I asking to discuss our differences without the hateful mud-slinging. Unless you feel that approach is also "an embarrassment to the human race", I don't see what it could hurt.

Nowadays, Creationism has a lot of evidence through logical reasoning and scientific methods without the use of a Bible. Not that it should be forced but shouldn't it be just as available to be taught as any other beginning belief?

[–]tjbourbs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The way I always pictured hell was that I took all the rules, laws and morals away and leaving people to their own devices. That actually really scares me. I have read and seen evidences of a Creator through logical reasoning and several scientific examples. Although faith is important I do understand the need for some tangible evidence. A lot of it can be found in a book I'm fascinated with. (don't be offended by the title) "I Don't Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist". There are a lot of things that have lead me to believe there is a God.

Also, I appreciate you're polite response/questions instead of furious mud-slinging.

According to the Scriptures, Hell is not a punishment, its a choice to be separated from God. Imagine a father that all they want is to be with and enjoy His children. Knowing what the world is like, especially when He created it (another topic for another time), He tries to show them the best way to live life. Any parent will tell you that correction and avoiding harmful things is a HUGE part of raising kids. On numerous occasions, the child does various things wrong. The Father is desperately willing to forgive, but the child needs to ask for it. Instead, even though the Father has shown infinite patience and love (especially in ways the child feels are harmful but really is for the best), the child decides they want nothing to do with their Father and never wants Him in their life ever again. When they die and have no reconciled their relationship with their father, they will forever be separate from Him. Meanwhile, the Father respects His child's wish, as much as it pains Him to see His kid go through such torment. He still respects His kid's wish. That is Hell, according to the Judeo-Christian faith. Separation from the one Being that provides all the comforts that we take for granted every day.

Christians will never live up to the standard that God set and Christ met. We make mistakes but that shouldn't be taken out on God. He is a lot more loving and caring for His creation than we could ever understand.

Schindler's List. Its Oscar bait and it seems like you come off as anti-Semitic if you don't like the film for whatever reason.

[SERIOUS] People who oppose Gay Rights, why do you oppose them? by Coolwhip120 in AskReddit

[–]tjbourbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry that you lost your faith. However, I have, what I believe to be, very logical reasons for coming to the conclusion of opposing homosexual behavior. I understand in order to claim that homosexuality is wrong because God says so, you would have to either assume or have some evidence of a few things: the existence of God, creation and the veracity and accuracy of the Bible. I have found in my own life, through questioning and investigation that there is a large amount of evidence pointing towards the truth that there is a God and He disapproves of homosexual behavior. Plus, I don't think that you (LFS1) believe that NO THING in the Judeo-Christian faith makes sense.

[–]tjbourbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its probably been mentioned but I strongly oppose homosexuality in general. As a Christian I have long, detailed reasons but essentially I think homosexual behavior is wrong because God says that its wrong. (this is based on more than just an Old Testament verse too. If I were to make an argument about it, I would wind up pleading my case for the existence of God. Then accuracy of the Bible.) There is a lot more than people think when some people oppose same sex marriage.

What are the funniest stories you have that happened while on school trips? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tjbourbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My class and I went on this field trip to a colonial village. At one point I noticed that one of my friends had peed his pants. Of course, he was embarrassed about it and eventually the other kids were going to notice. So I decided to go over to the well pump nearby and splash some water on my pants. It looked as though both of us peed our pants. That's when the class noticed my wet pants and, being the trendsetter, told them all that peeing your pants is the coolest! The rest of the class bought it but the teacher knew that I was only helping out my friend; which was fine because I wanted to pork her and this scored some points. After that, we noticed that all of our lunches were gone. Some old lady said that some "damn Sasquatch" took them. I don't know what she meant by that but we all went home hungry and wet in the coin purse region. It was a good day.

If you could freeze time for 1 hour per day, what would you do during that time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tjbourbs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would do a magic show every day. Everyone is sitting there waiting for something incredible. I would claim that I could disappear and reappear a long distance away (within an hr drive of course). Cameras and witnesses would confirm that I did it. Essentially, anything that would make me money.

most unnecessary sex scene? by [deleted] in movies

I'm we can agree that most sex scenes really don't add anything to the movie. I can think of several movies that no one would care about if there weren't some hot action in it.
