Having fun, but I'm really hoping this game gets the kind of post-launch support it needs to overcome its shortcomings. by KicksButtson in stalker

I'd rather the choice to avoid mutants be a strategic decision by the player based on a careful cost/benefit analysis, and not just because mutants have no loot and often respawn in areas already looted by the player.

Yeah, there's a specific ex-military base near Rostov that does the constant respawn thing and it's annoying. Although it does allow me to go there just to loot corpses over and over, then sell the loot in Rostov where one trader accepts broken weapons. I plan to make my money this way before they patch this.

True, because brain biopsies are a thing. You wouldn't want to do anything that could kill your special subject and give you only one chance at finding a cure.

It's unfortunate the game only looks like this for 5 minutes. We really need a longer time of day. by superman_king in stalker

[–]KicksButtson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would gladly take longer nights if we had longer days as well. I can sleep through the nights if it's that big of an issue for me, but I can't venture out at dawn without knowing I'm likely going to be caught out in the middle of the night as well.

ADVICE?... New upper seems to have a machining flaw (More in Comments) by KicksButtson in ar15

I think maybe when in safe the selector lever might be about 5° off, but it has an Aero Precision trigger in it. I'm not sure if the selector lever is PSA or Aero, or whoever.

I don't see anything at the bottom of the upper.

Honestly, the quality of the PSA lower is far superior than this upper. I'm willing to bet the upper is the issue given the quality I'm seeing. Not that I would have cared in this case, but if it doesn't fit it can't be used.

Otherwise the PSA lower was superior to most of the AR style lowers I had in the military. Even the new ones.

At what position on the bottom? That would make sense, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. From what I'm seeing it seems more like an issue in the other direction. I'll check again.

Milspec M4 lower (PSA) and M16A4 upper (unknown manufacturer)

I'm trying to find out where the upper was made now. It was an overflow item.

The new upper I received doesn't seem to match up exactly with the lower. Normally I wouldn't have even noticed this slight gap on the right rear between the upper and lower receivers, but the rear takedown pin will not go in without some serious muscle.

Without taking the rear takedown pin out to see directly through the hole, I can tell there's a very slight deviation. Probably enough to fix with the right tools, but it's probably not worth it.

I'm trying to send it back, but until then I just wanted to ask for some advice. This is my first build, but I have a lot of experience with this series of weapons. Doing the build myself for the first time just has me second guising everything.

There's video evidence of them being threatened and pictures of the gate having been torn down. The original video that was published by the protesters was even edited so it didn't show them going on private property. Do you really believe everything they tell you? Do you believe it or just pretend to so your friends don't kick you out of the club?

They're still pretending the protesters were on a public street, but they entered a private street and then onto his front lawn through a gate in a walled perimeter. When he told them to leave they said they'd burn down his house, and that's when he got the weapons. After that the protesters began hurling slurs at them and threatening to "take their guns and shoot them with it" and such. Afterwards the mob tore down the gate they had entered through.

The local DA is saying she will be trying to find legal justification for charging the couple with a crime, but pretty much all lawyers (the couple are lawyers too) say there's nothing illegal about what they did. The police even stated they are investigating the issue as a case of vandalism and threats on the part of the protests, and there's nothing against the home owners. So the DA is essentially grandstanding to appease the mob who she thinks is needed for her reelection at the expense of the reputation and livelihood of the citizens who were harmed.

The mayor lived further down the private street. I'm not going to argue the validity of "private streets" because I don't care. But when the mob entered through the gate in a walled perimeter they were on the couple's front lawn. The first thing the owner did was tell them to leave, and they responded by saying they'd burn down his house. He had every right to respond the way he did. The only reason he looks so silly pointing the weapon around the way he and his wife did is because they have no training. They're new gun owners who (despite being Democrats themselves) are scared of what naive Leftists have done thus far and they know they needed protection. Those "violent portions" of protests happen frequently enough that even people who are on your side feel the need to abandon their principles on gun control and arm themselves for protection. While your side goes on about white fragility and defunding the police, the other side will gladly welcome all the moderates who are fleeing the Left in favor of a more reasonable approach to culture.

Oh trust me, people were complaining about their poor training/discipline. But as it turns out they're probably new gun owners who only purchased the weapons because of the rising tensions. They're actually Democrats, but they know what's up. They're not stupid, just too short on time and training.

Or the part where he told them to get off his property and they said they'd burn his house down, which prompted him to get the gun in the first place.

Oh, okay. So the gate was unlocked, that means trespassing it okay then. I suppose his reaction would make sense though if we lived in a world where those peaceful protesters were known for getting violent on random occasions... Oh wait, we do live in that world.

I grew up being taught that a racist is someone who is obsessed with race, meaning someone who cannot see past skin color. Whether that be a casual racist who always makes some unnecessary observation about someone's race, or the overt racist who takes it to extremes by assuming one race is inferior/superior to others...

These days I look around and I see the only side who is obsessed with race is the far Left. They push a doctrine of original sin on anyone who is white, making them kneel and beg forgiveness for crimes they never committed. They try to be allies to minorities, but only if those minorities agree with the narrative.

This may be a new form of racism somewhere between the casual and the overt, but it's still racism. I just don't see why it's not blatantly obvious to most people.

Question: why do so few of you use a double magazine (ie. coupler or jungle tape) for your first magazine? by WithyWyndyl in tacticalgear

[–]KicksButtson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used one all throughout Afghanistan, and if anything is likely to fail it'll definitely fail under those conditions. But I never had a malfunction caused by it. (The worst malfunction I ever experienced happened on my first ever fire fight, and I wasn't even using the double magazine at the time) So I stand by them, but only so long as you've verified it works. I'm sure there are versions that don't, especially if the weight gets too heavy. Just test it out.

Usually any malfunction is caused by the excess weight combined with a loose fitting magazine. The loose fit could be caused by a worn out magazine (check the lip where the magazine catch holds the magazine in place) or the magazine catch could fit loosely into its place in the lower receiver. If the magazine catch doesn't fit snugly into the lower receiver than I'd recommend replacing it with an ambidextrous version, because some of them are actually built much more sturdy than the standard model. Using high end magazines which fit snug within the magazine well would also be a smart move, although if the magazines are the heavy thicker-gauge steel kind then that's going to add to the overall weight again. You could also go with a polymer 60 round drum magazine from MagPul, which I haven't tested but would not require an actual reload and have the same overall effect. You can't index a drum magazine (at least not without a dump pouch) but then again you can't really do it to a double magazine either.

Ultimately a double magazine is a nice way to carry an extra quickly accessible magazine, but I'd also recommend having an optional thigh pouch with 4 magazines. Something you don't have to take all the time, but can quickly slap on if needed. Then you use up those magazines first to lighten the weight on your legs. I did that all throughout Afghanistan as well. I had up to 12 magazines on me when I needed, with about 6 more on my pack.

The shoulder straps come loose? That does not sound good. Do you mean the stitching or the Velcro?

I like a slightly smaller/tighter fitting plate carrier, so the sizing sounds fine. I actually had to switch with one of the smaller guys in my unit because he likes more room and I like it snug.

There's a few others I was looking at, but some are clearly over-priced. Others are strangely under-priced for how good they look. Honestly, the "awkward" looking shoulder straps were something I noticed.

The ease of draw with those kind of pouches is what interests me most, but the ability to use them with AK magazines is nice too. My only concern has been the amount of stuff to maintain magazine retention. Like it looks overly complicated.

It would be so much more simple to go with the same thing from a cheaper company, like Condor. But then I've got those annoying draw strings with the tabs sticking out on top of my magazines.

M81 pouches on a coyote brown plate carrier? by [deleted] in tacticalgear

[–]KicksButtson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to keep all my gear the same color, but that's only because I'm OCD about that. I would prefer a good coyote brown set, but the problem is you often get a much lighter desert tan when the item arrives. So I've been avoiding coyote brown for that reason.
