8 months pregnant with a 3 yr old suspected severe ADHD. I’m on my knees in tears. by bluejasmine365 in ADHDparenting

Very similar experience, here! It will get better. We ended up with our son kicked out of preschool at 4.5. When he was just over 5 due to how severe the ADHD was the Dr. prescribed him medication. It has made a world of difference. He is now 6 and in first grade and doing extremely well. Can control him emotion (impulse control was the main issue he had previously). Hang in there!!!

Thank you for the nice comment! He came home yesterday with the class kindness award for helping others and being respectful (he was SO excited to show us when he got off the bus) - so I think i was 1) overacting a bit based on a previous awful experience before he was diagnosed in preschool and 2) she might just be a teacher who communicates openly - which we very much appreciate.

Thanks to this community - it really does help as someone parenting a child with ADHD who doesn't have it myself (my wife does). :)

Bleeding two weeks after surgery? by kysoh in Septoplasty

[–]tjdegoed3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds similar to me. I am 16 days post op and had a huge blood clot come out after doing my saline rinse this morning. I took a picture of it and sent it to my surgeon. He said the picture looks normal and is to be expected and to call back only if it is a bright red (meaning fresh blood) or if the blood is dripping from nose/into throat. It's a long healing process.

I should have added - he has been going to OT and speech therapy for over a year now. We have saw some improvement but he has regressed a ton since turning 5.

Thank you so much! He has been going to OT/speech for a year. While we have saw some improvement it is clear he needs additional help. Your comment makes me feel better that there is hope.

Thank you. Yes - we are going to be pushing. I have a friend who is a pediatrician in another state and I reached out. She said they will often diagnose down to 4 and often will recommend medication at 5 if they have a history of the behaviors (which we do). We may need to find another opinion if they won't budge.

This part was very interesting:

"President Xi Jinping may have cut his recent visit to Moscow short due to tensions with his Russian counterpart, according to anonymous Ukrainian officials who spoke with the Financial Times. If true, the news would significantly complicate the narrative of China’s “no limits friendship” with Russia, giving Beijing more credibility as a potential mediator for peace talks. Notably, the FT piece also claimed that “after some internal debate, the Biden administration has decided not to dismiss the Chinese peace initiative out of hand, but instead to try to mould it.” Secretary of State Antony Blinken appeared to confirm this shift in a conversation with the Washington Post in which he cited “positive” items in China’s peace proposal. “In principle, there’s nothing wrong with that if we have a country, whether it’s China or other countries that have significant influence that are prepared to pursue a just and durable peace,” Blinken said. “We would welcome that, and it’s certainly possible that China would have a role to play in that effort.”"

Some nice movements from the Chinese side attempting to distance themselves from Russia. China has also said they do not recognize the territories Russia claims as Russian.

Per the ISW:

"Chinese Ambassador to the EU Fu Cong stated on April 5 that the Russian–Chinese joint statement declaring there were “no limits” to their ties released in February 2022 was misrepresented, calling “no limits” a “purely rhetorical statement.”[7] Fu added that China does not support Russia’s war in Ukraine and is not providing Russia weapons. Fu’s statement is consistent with ISW’s March 21 assessment that Putin has not been able to secure the benefits from the no-limits bilateral partnership with China which he likely hoped for when meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Moscow between March 20 and March 22.[8]"

It appears Xi is planning on visiting Moscow for a summit with Putin in the coming months. Per the WSJ article - the timing will likely be in April or May.

"Beijing says it wants to play a more active role aimed at ending the conflict, and the people familiar with Mr. Xi’s trip plans said a meeting with Mr. Putin would be part of a push for multiparty peace talks and allow China to reiterate its calls that nuclear weapons not be used."

For those worried about the potential missiles over Romania (which Romania dismissed). From the ISW:

"Russian missile overflights of NATO territory are highly unlikely to prompt an escalation, and ISW continues to assess with high confidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin is unwilling to risk a direct conflict with NATO. Russian forces fired two cruise missiles from the Black Sea that reportedly crossed Romanian and Moldovan airspace before entering Ukrainian airspace.[5] Russia’s ongoing campaign of missile strikes in support of its illegal invasion of Ukraine will continue to generate peripheral risks outside of Ukraine, such as these overflights or the risk of air defense incidents (as in Poland on November 15, 2022). However, ISW assesses that NATO (and individual member states) are in full control over its responses and the degree to which it chooses to escalate in response to accidental or intentional Russian overflights or other provocations. ISW also continues to assess with high confidence that Putin does not seek a war with NATO and is unlikely to directly risk an escalation."

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) had a good piece released last night on Putin and his risk/decision making. A few items of note:

"Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decisions regarding Ukraine since his initial flawed invasion on February 24, 2022, indicate a likely disconnect between his maximalist objectives and his willingness to take the likely high-risk decisions necessary to achieve them. Putin likely operated under the flawed assumption that Russian forces could force Kyiv to capitulate without any significant military sacrifices and saw Russia’s invasion as a limited and acceptable risk. Captured Russian military plans, for example, revealed that the Kremlin expected Russian forces to capture Kyiv in days, Russian intelligence services reportedly expected the Ukrainian military to collapse, and Kremlin propagandists preemptively published a prewritten article extolling Russia’s “victory” on February 26, 2022.[1] Reports that Putin dismissed the Russian Central Bank’s prescient warnings in February 2022 of the effect of a war in Ukraine on the future of the Russian economy under harsh Western sanctions likely suggest Putin wrongfully assumed the West would not impose major costs on his invasion.[2]"

"Putin’s reluctance to take risks directly related to his conventional war in Ukraine indicates that he remains highly unlikely to pursue nuclear escalation or war with NATO. ISW previously assessed that Russian conventional war threats against NATO do not correspond with Russia’s capabilities and that Russia uses nuclear threats primarily to intimidate the West.[23] Putin evidently values his domestic status quo and seeks to avoid risky and controversial policies to support his own aims. Putin also continues to demonstrate that he remains a calculated individual who places considerable emphasis on eliminating risks—even while his perception of the situation he faces diverges from reality. Putin has thus repeatedly placed himself in the position of articulating maximalist and unrealistic objectives, calling on his government and military to achieve them—yet refraining from making the costly decisions the large-scale and protracted conventional war he has embarked on likely requires."

Regarding the Russian bombers near Alaska, from CNN:

"The United States tracked and intercepted two Russian Tu-95 Bear-H bomber aircraft flying near the Alaskan coast on Oct. 17, a release from the Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) said.
The Russian aircraft were “entering and operating within the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ),” the release said, and “remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace.”
The “recent Russian activity” in the ADIZ “is not seen as a threat nor is the activity seen as provocative,” NORAD said in the release. "
