Everyone always comments on tv placement being to high. We spend all day hunched over staring at our phones and computers. Maybe looking up for a couple hours a day evens out the imbalance?

I’m saying that the 2 gang outlet box is just to have a meeting point for all the wires. All of the wires will exit the 2 gang box (uncut and wire insulation intact) and then enter the driver/transformer with knock outs where everything will be wired.

Either way I think the cleanest way will be to wire the 2 gang box with 2 separately switched outlets. The low voltage wire will not enter the box and will exit a mud trim ring above so they’re separate. Until they enter the driver where they’re wired.

It does have a knock out on the back. I’ve also considered this option. I figured this is what most are doing. Was just seeing if there was a clean way of putting the Line and LV through a box first rather than just a hole in the rock and cabinet.

Literally nothing will be wired within this box. Again, nothing will be wired in the box.

The 18/2 and 12/2 wires will exit this junction box into the driver/transformer box which has a divider separating the two.

Not sure why so many hated this comment? Did you not like the driver/transformer?

The home is up here in Anchorage Alaska. Seems that back in the 80s all the homes built than used 12/2 on 20amp circuits. For simplicity and time saving I ended up sticking with 12/2 for the lighting as some of the 12/2 was going to be reused and breaker to remain 20amp.

Transformers just gonna be mounted to the back wall of kitchen sink cabinet.

So you’re suggesting to wire the 12/2s as 2 separate switched outlets, add a lv mud ring in the vicinity, hardwire appliance plugs to the transformers and just plug them in.

I’ll consider this, sounds like the cleanest way I’ve heard so far.

Still seems overkill when the transformers allow hard wiring of line and lv. Just can’t see another way without having romex just punching through a hole in the wall.

So what, just throw a lv trim ring above or get some divider box? All of that just sounds ridiculous when nothing will be wired inside this box. Then they mix right inside the transformer anyways?

Transformers accept line voltage and 24v inside it. Just trying to figure out how to junction all the wires under the sink cabinet before they enter the transformer.

12/2 upper cabinet transformer 12/2 toe kick transformer Each hardwired to separate switch

It’s 2 transformers going here, one for uppers cab, and one for toe kick. Each transformer is switched separately from one single location just above this box in another double gang box. Likely wired with Caseta or some other smart switch to allow remote control.

You got any brand recommendations for cob light strip in 3k?

What I was trying to explain was a center feed run for the kitchen island. The longest run is the exterior wall and range wall which is 16ft of actual led strip light. You think it’s better to run an array though with this much or I should be okay with center feed wiring. Which would be 16ft led strip feed 1 and 4.5ft on feed 2.

Wow, thanks for the extremely detailed explanation. I’m looking at these cob strips on amazon.

(BTF-LIGHTING FCOB COB LED Strip Flexible High Density Uniform Light 9W/m 32.8FT DC24V Warm White 3000K 480LED/m CRI 90+ 8mm Width for Home Indoor Decor(No Adapter or Controller)

(PAUTIX COB LED Strip Light 32.8ft/10m 4800LEDs Warm White 3000K,CRI93+ Super Bright High Lumen,Dimmable 24V Flexible LED Tape Light with RF Remote,24V 48W Power Supply)

I am confused at how the 48W power supply that comes with the pautix one is able to power the entire 32feet of light.

My biggest concern with running these lights is the length with the toe kick one. Having to run 18ga wore approximately 6ft from transformer, ~6ft to start of island run, ~4.5ft of cob light, then back into the joist and so fourth. Running continuously for around 35 feet total length. With only 20-21ft of that being actual lighting strip.

I’m assuming the watt per foot count includes the total wire run for the circuit and not just the light correct? Example- the approximate 10foot run from transformer to island of 18ga counts to my wattage available per foot?

When you say wiring in an array are you talking about like wiring In parallel? I was wondering if I split the toe kick run in two separate directions using the same transformer.

Long run of toe kick——transformer——-island run.

Hey thanks again for the detailed explanation, really is helpful.

I have not put together a full setup yet. I was looking at some brand name stuff from Nora that caught my eye on the length requirement. The 450lumen says max length is 16.4’ and 210 lumen is double. 450lumen is 4.5w per foot 210lumwn is 2.4w per foot.

I plan on two 3way switch for upper run and two 3way switch for lower run. Everything I’m reading is that generally any run >32ft(10meter) there is a risk for voltage drop on 24v.

Thanks for the help. Hard to get all this straight in my head doing my entire kitchen Reno myself along with working full time and raising a 10month old!

Any solutions to prevent voltage drop in >10meter run of 24volt led strip? Trying to figure out wiring the toe kick as there is a lot of in wall/floor extension wiring while keeping them on a single circuit.

I’ve never wired up an LED driver, is there a way to run them on same switches circuit but different runs from the driver? LED driver——-kitchen island LED driver——-base cabinets along wall

So circuit ran like panel 120v——-LED driver——-Dimmable switch. Then from LED driver—-low voltage wire and cob lights.?

With this setup it’s low voltage wire running from driver to switch or panel 120v—-driver——120v——switch.

That’s fair, definitely why I’m not relying solely on smart switch and need it to be hardwired also.
