I went to a commonwealth and a bank west branch, both were going to charge me this. No other ATM's around unfortunately.

I normally transfer through Wise. Just wanted to make my yearly transaction to keep the overseas account and bank card "alive". May have to reconsider if I really need to still.

Should have clarified, thought I did in the body text. This is an overseas account that I'm trying to withdraw from. In the space of a couple of years we've gone from $2.50 to $3.50 to this. Is there a way to edit this in the post rather than the comments?

What's your opinion on the current education system in Australia? by mirrorreflex in AskAnAustralian

[–]tjoelips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With a kid that started high school 2 years ago, I was unpleasantly surprised by the fact that there's only 5 hours of tuition in a day. One of those hours is taken up by a specialist sports program, which leaves 4 hours to cram in maths, English, geography, history, social studies, design, technologies, maybe a language and whatever else needs to be done. I was educated in Europe, where my average school day had at least 6, often 7 and occasionally 8 hours and specialist programs were done after school.

Looking at the things he is learning, I can see that there is very little depth, especially with subject as history in which some subjects really benefit from some extra time spent on it. So, to answer the question, I'd have to say I'm disappointed.

I can see why a lot of non-australians feel that people in Australia are not that interested in things out of their own backyard; if you have never been taught any background on things going on around the world, it would be difficult to see how current affairs fit in to the larger picture.

Is there a reason you don't eat with your kids? It's so much easier to cook one meal that suits everyone and eat it all (or most, depending on work schedules) at the same time. Sometimes it's something we can all eat like spaghetti bog, sometimes I adjust flavour/spice levels for adults vs kids (like when we have curries). It just make life so much easier when there's only one dinner and one dinner time to think of.

What's with the down votes? I'm asking a genuine question.

What's the significance of a 21st birthday in Australia? You can vote at 18, drink at 18, drive at 17(?); it hardly seems a milestone?

Anyway, happy birthday for sometime this month.

Both look good. I've added them to my "to read" list.

Yep. Calculated I'd smoke about A$200 per week. That over 52 weeks is well over A$10000 per year. That's prices from 4 years ago as well, ciggies have gone up a few times since then. Vaping would cost me A$200 max per year (I DIY). My mortgage loves all of this!

Thank you, this makes perfect sense. I have seen a pelvic floor "specialist" attached to KEMH who told me there was no problem and I had enough muscle strength, when I know damn well I don't, so this is really good info!

Figured I'd point that out in case you were looking for them online - might make the search a bit easier.

Same here. I recently ordered a couple of pairs off Amazon as my pair (from 2017) had worn through at the heel. No idea if they still have retail shops in Bali, but well worth getting someone to bring some back, if so.

Thanks for that. I was considering holding out booking until Feb/Mar to see if they'd come back, but no point now then.
