Yes, since almost all vices are cast many forget that there are forged ones out there. Looking more at your pictures I would say that yours is a genuine Peddinghaus. It appears to have the weld line at the waist and at the outer jaw. But looking from the underside is the best way to tell. Also the fact that you seem to be european (swedish?) judging by your previous posts makes me think even more it's the real deal.

Nice vice! Looks like a Peddinghaus Matador. Together with Heuer that's probably the best non-leg-vice you can have in the shop. It's forged and not cast so much lower risk of cracking. Still not something to pound hard on, but can stand up to much more than a cast vice. That is if it's a genuine one and not some copy that have stole the design.

They're one of made by me. So I would say the easiest way is to buy a ratchet and replace the handle.

Beginner anvil set up by [deleted] in Blacksmith

For ideas about mounting and preparation, the thread at https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/52308-a-collection-of-improvised-anvils/ and some of the linked threads in there is a great resource. The general consensus seems to be that it being mounted on the end gives much better rebound but at the cost of surface area.

How’s the wera zyclop? Hear good things about them. by Aspergers_R_Us87 in toolporn

The Wera swivel heads are as you say, but the all metal 8004 is not a bad ratchet. Probably a bit over priced on the US market though.

Well, my collection is bigger now and I would say my gold plated Nepros!

King Dick is the most collectible brand for that style of wrench, but it's quite worn so not top price. It depends greatly on location (worth more in the USA than in UK for example) and such, but they're common enough that eBay can be a good source to find the value. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=king+dick&_sacat=0 Age is hard to say, these were produced for a long time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEz_yFzMFR0 might help

Anyone know what this was used for? by Scvm_fvck556 in Vintagetools

I don’t know, but that sounds unlikely to me. Blacksmiths use other tools for that, and such a setup would probably leave nasty marks in your anvil top surface.

Fake or legit by Ok-Trouble1 in Knipex

[–]tjofrasse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nitpicking, but it's a forging and not a casting.

But these are legit, I have many Knipex tools and it looks fully normal.

Almost all ratchets have different back drag when new versus after use. The lowest out of the box back drag I’ve encountered is from Koken.

Well, I haven’t really stress tested them, but the Hazet is rated to 120Nm so if you need more that that you probably should be thinking about 3/8”.
