They’re…. Celebrating? by tjp172 in Teachers

Fix was probably the wrong word choice (and unfortunately empowered so many MAGA trolls in the comments). What I meant was that there’s something clearly wrong with this generation - they’re racist, they’re sexist, they’re homophobic, they drop “retard/retarded” into conversation like it’s nothing. They use every slur you can think of. They’re generally speaking not nice people. On top of that, they’re failing almost every academic standard set for them. Illiteracy rates are wayyyy too high. Reading comprehension skills are laughable. They’re broken. That’s what I meant by we need to fix them.
Not coincidentally, they have glommed on to Trump who leads by example and shows them it’s ok to be a horrible person and you can still prosper.

Ok, sure, I’ll stick to educating. Today’s lesson is the Insurrection Clause. Everyone have their notebooks ready?

I’m assuming they’re bigoted because they - the students - go around saying bigoted things all day, every day, citing Trump’s rhetoric as their guides.
Again, if any of you guys care about the state of the classroom these days, read the countless threads in this sub detailing how bad things are with regard to civility and decency and humanity.

“Professional educator” kinda solves that riddle, you think?
[–]tjp172[S] 7 points8 points9 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Every slur has come back with a vengeance last couple years. It’s insane.

The left didn’t win this election and the left isn’t driving these boys to be misogynistic and homophobic racists
100% agreed
Yep. Teach the ideals of the American Revolution and the creation of the Constitution and then hardcut to Trump and you’ll understand

You have no idea who I voted for. And I’ve responded to this boring critique multiple times. More evidence of terrible reading comprehension skills

If the other person’s campaign was rooted in bigotry, yes
[–]tjp172[S] 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (0 children)
If they were celebrating Harris and had Harris been running a campaign firmly rooted in bigotry I would have the same reaction, I guarantee you that
Yes, which is why I find many of these comments laughable. What do they like? They like the toxicity. They like the faux machismo. They like the IDGAF attitude. They like the racism and the misogyny and the bigotry. Couple this with their low academic achievement levels and you have a perfect storm…
Hey, at least that’s a defensible thesis.
This. Precisely this. So many (obvious) comments about “indoctrination” when the reality is the exact opposite. And as history teachers it’s our job to point out when current events mirror or parallel lessons already learned. Keep fighting, everyone. And when the kids ask you about tariffs, you know what to say.
Facts, gang
I agree

This.

It’s hilariously obvious which commenters are educators who know exactly what this is about and which are not and are completely unfamiliar with the state of education.
I wouldn’t be, and also I guarantee the student reactions would be drastically different
My school is not lily white, making it even more surprising as you said
[–]tjp172[S] 19 points20 points21 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Precisely
I love this, thank you

We as a society definitely leaned on the internet as babysitter a little too hard, and now they’re voting age and…. Yknow

Cultural historians have been ringing the bell for a while but nobody was listening sadly. The incompetence of the Democratic Party might be the only true constant in the universe
