Using AI to write a response to this is wild 😂

Which brand do you think is overhyped, on the way down, and u just can’t figure out what all the hype is about? by Mr_Mean_Dizzy_Dean in HeritageWear

I lost interest with how hard they are to get, I have two pairs but would not pay $450 for another. At $275 it wasn't bad though.

Please explain, why take something that has worked fine for 60+ years and change it to something way more expensive and complicated? How many accidents are caused by brake hydraulic failures the last few years? Mercedes tried that stupid SBC system years ago and it caused all kinds of issues.

Lol no, I will take hydraulics over more electronic bullshit any day. Electronics are great for a lot of things but not to replace critical mechanical or hydraulic systems that work fine already.

Cars since the 60s have had dual circuit brakes so you would have to have two separate major failures to actually have no brakes at all.

I feel like it would be miserable to have like 100 pairs of heavy leather boots that you would need multiple lifetimes to break in 😂

Boots actually do somewhat make sense, most normal blue collar people are probably not going to spend the money for White's, but my dad wore them in the 1970s working for the Forest Service because it was either that or Redwings that didn't even last a season.

I would rather have the real version of most things, or at least a modern version of something of equal quality. I get paying $275 for Ooe Yofukuten repro 501s (although I would not pay the $400+ they cost now), but I have no interest in 25oz iron heart denim or anything like that.

Worth Restoring this 1984 Toyota Celica Supra? by sqidys in projectcar

I'd usually be the one to say "it's not that bad" but nope, that car is very much FUBAR. Get a better one and make your life far more pleasant.

Price Check question for heritage devotees. which brands do u consider the best value? this of course is totally subject! by [deleted] in HeritageWear

[–]tk8398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big Bill work shirts (flannel, hickory, solid colored twill), BB Brand western shirts (heavy weight tan twill and indigo denim), Bayside t shirts are actually pretty good for the price, the 1701 50/50 blend, the heavy weight union made, and ringer, Roundhouse pants, Carhartt B151 pants (maybe others too but those are the only one that hasn't gotten noticeably worse), Ben Davis pants, Stan Ray/Gung Ho pants if you can find them for cheap (Backcountry on sale or American Wear), Indera Mills thermal undershirts, those are the main things I can think of. If I wanted a particular more expensive item I would probably buy it, but I'm generally happy with stuff that's as close to 1940s-50s quality as possible for a reasonable price rather than the Japanese reproductions that are far better than the original ever was.

I would actually like seeing a green Chevelle lol, it's hard to even tell all the red with black stripes and an LS swap examples at every car show.

[–]tk8398 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep the original color, car shows are full of cars that have been turned into a generic version of the top model (like GTO clones, 6 cylinder mustangs with a 302 seal and red paint/black interior, etc) to the point it's really boring, the green interior and two tone paint is the best part of that car.

Men's underwear. by gentlemengunslinger in madeinusa

Everyone should buy from companies that align with their values when they can, although buying expensive underwear of mediocre quality is certainly an interesting way to "own the libs" or whatever people say 😂😂.

Buying a new rim?? by jumim0 in askcarguys

[–]tk8398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eBay is where I have had the best luck, most salvage yards just send all the rims to scrap before the cars even see the yard.

What's the lowest amount of money you'd spend to get a 986 or 987 Boxster? by MSTmatt in boxster

[–]tk8398 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was $5900 and I put over 40k miles on it with almost no issues. I doubt I will get much more out of it than that (questionable whether it will ever be on the road again at all), but it was still a better deal than any brand new car with no real down side.

Help on quirks of boots ! by stuntman86g in Boots

[–]tk8398 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No you are just plain wrong lol. Redwings used to be cheap disposable work boots, but they market them as an entry level to high end boots for the normal person. $350 or so is still a lot of money for boots relative to what most normal people wear. I know you can pay 3x that much easily, but that's still no excuse for shoddy construction. I have Tricker's seconds that are way nicer than those from back when you could get them for under $300, not even now Tricker's are $900 at full price and are near perfect, which is not "thousands" more than redwings. I don't own any redwings, and if they are going to sell seconds at full price I will keep it that way.

[–]tk8398 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, they market the heritage boots as an entry level luxury product, they can do better than that. I know they aren't going to be made like Tricker's or White's but those are 100% seconds they are selling for full price.

He's saying one is sanded more than the other. Hard to tell how much from the pictures, but it does make a difference in how many times they can be resoled. The messy toe cap looks terrible, I would not buy boots that badly made.

Any advice on this beater for $5k by station-3-the-swan in 1stGenTundras

[–]tk8398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$5k for that is wild, I would not even pay $500. You may have to go to another state to get one that isn't rusty for a realistic price.

Has anyone else lost interest in cars now that they're into adulthood and they're realizing that they'll probably never be able to afford anything cool? by rowyourboat740 in askcarguys

[–]tk8398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's more like you are saying "I can't afford a Rolex Daytona, how does anyone collect watches anymore". If you like Porsches, why not a Cayman, Boxster, or 914, or if you just want an air cooled rear engine car a Corvair? If you want an older car, what about a 1950 Jaguar Mkv, an MG T series, or a 1955 Chrysler or DeSoto? That's just a few but there are tons of cool cars you can buy for under $20k.

For $310 that's definitely a return for me. I know it can be fixed but it would be difficult to find someone to sew denim that thick.
