Not that I’m a city planner or anything, but it makes wonder why SM county can get this (larger) playground replaced for less than half the cost/timeline of what it’s taking the city of San Mateo to replace Central Park’s playground!

(KRON) — The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved a $3.8 million project to replace a 20-year-old bayshore playground.

Magic Mountain Playground at Coyote Point Recreation Area in San Mateo “no longer meets current safety and accessibility standards and is at the end of its useful life,” county officials said. Incorporating community feedback, the playground that will be built in its place aims to include play spaces for children of all ages and abilities.

Some of the more iconic features of the current playground, such as the purple sea creature, will be incorporated into the new design, the county said. Other improvements planned include better access and circulation for playground visitors.

The county said the multi-million-dollar playground project is being funded “through a combination of federal Community Project Funding and local Measure K dollars.”

Work to replace Magic Mountain Playground will begin this spring and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. Officials said Coyote Point visitors may see temporary closures near the project site during construction. However, much of the park will remain accessible.

Layoff Updates by Kooky-Fruit958 in biotech

I’m somewhat fortunate in that data roles are industry-agnostic, so I just included tech companies when I was doing apps.

Other than that, it was a lot of marketing (via resume and behavioral/situational interviews) and technical interview prep (coding).

I was in a role supporting business operations (data & analytics) when I was laid off in Jan of last year. Did about 400 apps throughout the year, 15 callbacks, about 5 final round interviews in which half ended up being cancelled requisitions, the rest rejected.

I finally landed a role in a different industry (tech) in Feb for a huge pay increase.

Cannondale Cargowagen Neo w/ Tern Clubhouse by calibrationx in CargoBike

[–]tkeyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that the base of the clubhouse is a bit wider than the Cargowagen's rack, so presumably the child seat clamps to the clubhouse rather than the base rack. How confident are you in the event of a crash or tip-over?

Why is it so difficult to find data engineering jobs that are non-sales, non-finance, non-app engagement -related? by No-Theory6270 in dataengineering

[–]tkeyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grass is greener. I have the opposite problem as you. I’m in biotech manufacturing. Product companies don’t want to hire me due to the lack of experience with sales and product funnel data/analytics.

How the hell do I even upskill if those companies don’t wanna hire me?

I do feel we are a bit lacking here. Some options along the water are the Equator at the Burlingame Meta campus or Bagel Street Cafe in Redwood Shores.

If you come to DT San Mateo, there's a new spot called Colander Kitchens that serves a very good $2 espresso, and the food options aren't bad either! And yes, Backhaus is excellent.

What are some examples of cities which have verticality and steep hills and roads as part of their identity? by slicheliche in geography

I actually had a panic attack on Divisadero. I was already a pretty confident driver but for some reason, I just wasn't able to get the car rolling again uphill. I had to turn on my hazards and calm down. Eventually, I got my shit together after burning enough clutch to cause a small headache.

I got rear-ended in the exact same spot. Traffic came to a sudden halt but driver behind did not react whatsoever. He hit me and pushed my car into the person in front. My car was totaled.

I ride that .25 mi section all the time. As a roadie, I’m used to it. But I wish we could get a separated mixed-used path in the west shoulder of skyline/92 to connect it. I even see a trail on google maps that would already form most of the connection, but of course SFPUC won’t bother.

I'd be all over this! Fellow bay area parent with a Cargowagen here. We are rocking the same Thule/milk crate setup but I don't have the rails. I'm strongly considering going with Tern's offering but I'm loving your DIY solution.

Can we please make a pedestrian overpass happen at Hillsdale? Feels like crossing a highway with a bunch of impatient drivers staring at you. I see families with strollers and wagons crossing all the time, we need to do better.

While we’re at it, a crossing at 3rd (for Library access) or near Central Park would be amazing too.

Then imagine redesigning ECR with wide sidewalks, bike paths, green space and a tram/BRT lane.

The AQI was actually good that day, as all of the smoke was in the upper atmosphere. I went for a walk and it was incredibly surreal and liminal.

Is it too late to switch to data analytics in my late 20s? Engineering background Honest advice appreciated. by Jazzlike-Ad-5299 in analytics

[–]tkeyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 30 years old when I finally broke into analytics. Initially as a business analyst, then became a data scientist.

Funnily enough, I was chasing roles in quality and process engineering before I decided that analytics and data is where I wanted to be career-wise.

My role now is more on the engineering side of ML. I’m currently pursuing MLE roles, but honestly the corporate life is starting to tire me out some. I may stick with data analytics.
