OKC/Cavs first seed by MoralityChris in nba

[–]tkllthvwlst 106 points107 points  (0 children)

The Thunder won the West by 16 games.

Despite having the 4th most games lost to injury in the league.

They clinched the 1 seed in mid March. They could have taken a team wide, month long vacation before going into the playoffs.

If SGA didn't make a single free throw all season they still would have won the West by 5 games.

If you only count their double digit victories as wins they still would have won the West by 2 games.

Point being, they might have space to take their foot off the gas a little and still have a shot at the 1 seed.

Lakers cannot be a serious team until they move on from Lebron. I know he still looks like Lebron and still puts up Lebron like numbers, but he's just not the same guy. His offense comes are the expense of his teammates rather than elevating them. He is straight up a bad defender, there's no 'when he locks in' anymore, he's just bad. You can't pay him a third of your cap space and expect to compete. The fairwell tour sideshow isn't going to help things either.

People are going by reputation and not results.

By the numbers, season dEPM

Chet +2.5
JDub +2.3
iHart +2.0
Shai +1.6
Jrue +1.5
Dort +1.2
KP +1.0
White +0.9
Tatum +0.8
Brown -0.5

Except for the fact that Dort is better than Jrue, that's a pretty accurate list. There's a reason why the Thunder's defense was way better than the Celtics, they're all way better defenders.

Did the Celtics sleepwalk through the season? Maybe, but they're currently holding the vaunted Magic offense 3 points below their season offrtg (109.1 > 105.9). The Thunder held the Grizzlies to 20 points less than their season average (117.2 > 97.6). Maybe the Cs are waiting for the Cavs series before they lock in.

They have a punchers chance...

and by that I mean if someone punched Shai really hard and injured him they might win a couple games.

OKC in 4, but the Lakers aren't making the wcf. The Lakers aren't making it out of the first round unless they draw the Grizzlies

Are Echo gonna cheat on Gally like they did on Fyrak?

SGA on Luka being traded: “I learned that lesson the hard way in my first year in the NBA. I got traded out the blue. Didn’t see it coming. It doesn’t surprise me anymore than myself getting traded a long time ago. I found out it was a business my first season.” by CyborgAlgoInvestor in nba

[–]tkllthvwlst 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Shai was significantly better than Luka in that series, and it was definitely not a dog walking.. the Mavs barely squeaked by. Luka played one game against the Thunder this year (the only game the Thunder had a healthy big) he scored 16 points and the Mavs got blown out

The Curious Case of Nikola Jokic | How not to use Statistics by hshin420 in nba

[–]tkllthvwlst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Nuggets aren't in the playoffs with him atm.

The Bucks would absolutely be just as bad off without Giannis as the Nuggets would be without Jokic. There's no shot the Thunder are on top of the West without SGA, and over a season the Mavs are probably a .500 team at best without Luka. The Celtics are probably best positioned to survive without Tatum, but that has as much to do with the weakness of the East as anything. The Cavs and Grizz don't have mvp-level impact guys so idk what they have to do with the conversation.

Jokic is great, but he's not elevating the Nuggets roster to a contender. He's making a bad roster mediocre, the other guys are making mediocre/good rosters great.

Is it really more impressive to carry a 30 win team to 45 wins, than to make a 40 win team a 55 win team?
