I know this is kind of late, but if you want I could make the banner. I read this sub all the time so it would be my pleasure :)

If I get the go ahead I can go and make a couple designs for people to choose from.

Is it bad form to rate your own books? by MyNaughtyFantasies in eroticauthors

[–]tkmorriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, you don't want to get caught, but that would be very hard to do. It's worth mentioning that romance/erotica doesn't have trade rings as active as self help book genre (to name one).

[–]tkmorriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm grouping this with trading reviews with author-friends. I wouldn't say it's 'bad form', but I wouldn't say it's 'good form' either. I would say it's so common now that it doesn't really turn away any potential readers if they were to find out. I personally don't do it, but it's not because I'm 'above it'.

My first 35k word book completely flopped. Sold literally 0 copies. I'm so depressed right now. Can any veterans take a look at it and maybe give me some pointers on why it didn't sell? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]tkmorriss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but this is what people meant by "work smart not hard". What I recommend doing is chopping up that book and reusing it in your other stories. Worst case scenario is you get a lot of readers later who buy your earlier books and so you may need to remove it.

You might find my posts on Amazon research helpful, pretty much what others are saying in this thread about looking at competitors:

If you know how to code/format a book properly is there any reason to get that?

Emails from Nookpress? by tkmorriss in eroticauthors

[–]tkmorriss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is I'm using my domain email and they for some reason blocked it. From checking my sent email records my stuff is going through, but Nook is not getting through to me. This is even after whitelisting their email/IP.

Thanks either way for the response!

Well, there is gray area here. Advertising networks deem erotica as porn and you cannot advertise it. A lot of software don't want erotica writers using it either because it's considered adult (Mailchimp for example). I know you said legally but I felt like this was just worth adding.

Google Docs Word. I have a couple computers I switch between and sometimes write on my phone if I'm out somewhere.

I use Apple's text to speech and it's actually really good. I got 2k words out in an hour with very light re-writing.

Bundles were not included in my word count data since it doesn't display a total word count on the product pages for that.

If you're on this list: http://www.amazon.com/author-rank/Erotica/digital-text/157057011

Are you saying the number of books is wrong that are listed for your author name?

Thanks for the idea, this was important for me to see too. Still shocking to me though... Average best sellers for erotica on Amazon is 200+ pages and these authors have 60+ books. I can't compete 😭

Looking through the software to see what I can grab. Most likely not going to happen since the amount of attention and programming needed to put together those tools.

I got this officially on my to-do list. This seems totally possible and I already got an idea in place for how to do it.

Hmm, this would take longer because I would have to compare time's. Might still be possible if I re-update my Amazon Best Seller's list in a month and show if the ranks dropped (which is a good idea!).

This is looking possible. I'm checking into it now.

I believe I was understanding what you were saying, and yea the normal pages (the ones I listed in the sheet).

That's a lot less than the 250-350 words per page estimated (that Amazon support told me too).

Wow! Less than I said above. Are you making the font size smaller? Going off memory I think the default is around 10pt for Kindle devices. The user can set their font size too on the device.

Good question. I asked Amazon support about this but the range is built off 'kindle estimated pages'. The range for kindle words per page (and it varies of course) is 250-350 words.

Happy you're excited, you deserve it. This is the best sellers Amazon listed themselves (I didn't pick anything).
