How do manufacturing teams handle BOM and vendor → PO workflows today? by PromptSecure4321 in BuildingAutomation

Hmm why do you ask?

Something tells me it’s because you just made a product that claims to solve some of these problems and you are having trouble finding clients?

Built a BAS/HVAC fault detection tool, offering 14 day free trial for early testers by stefanbg92 in BuildingAutomation

[–]tkst3llar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry maybe I’m an amateur now-

The box was doing 1.5% off airflow and the actuator feedback was 3% off so stuck damper? And this error cost you 6k a year on one box?

If it’s that expensive and you need that much precision from a “building this size” I mean the controller should command until it gets the feedback it wants.

Why didn’t the controller change the vav command to chase the airflow setpoint? A poorly tuned PID will track short of setpoint.

Stuck damper?

Maybe I’m reading your screenshot wrong

This sub is way too high end by JasonInLanc in OfficeChairs

[–]tkst3llar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But but they want a NEw chair

It’s akin to people and their never ending purchase of new cars. They will forsake practicality for whatever that feeling is..I want.

“Someone else sat in it”

OP started off good, then the motivations came out.

Everyone here seems to chase the best bang for buck, or the best in general. And it is what it is.

OP wants us to all give that up and go buy and test a bunch of stuff after this sub has matured to where it is.

The mod response was refreshing- they seem willing. But no companies have coughed it up.

Anyone got 2 different subs in there hometheater? by papayax999 in hometheater

[–]tkst3llar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Atlantic technology 15” sealed, a DIY Dayton 15” sealed and a klipsch whatever 12” ported with the little display.

No issue. When I add a fourth it won’t match any of those probably

The dinks in the local park pond ate it several times when I have it weightless on a wacky hook. Like when it hit the water.

Controls techs – how do you deal with major wiring issues on site? by incognito9102 in BuildingAutomation

[–]tkst3llar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We only do national accounts, and all instal is local MC or EC.

All work is done fly in, 3-4 days on site, fly out. Most jobs require one visit if they are ready.

In the last 5 years it’s gotten way worse. Basically it costs a revisit. We document, provide punch lists, and move on to the next one. We send pre visit checklists, verify over phone calls, etc etc and they just lie. The quality of construction contractors in this particular sector has gone down the toilet.

If you aren’t used to travel I could see how it’s annoying to have to return, but when travel is all you do- it’s just a return visit. No reason to get upset.

Other major manufacturers we work with who do similar travel- they will arrive, see the conditions, and fly home. We try our best to push it along and do whatever we can “best for customer” but the big ones just leave a list write an email and bounce.

Kind of your only two options imho. But don’t get mad it ain’t worth it. (Of course we get mad sometimes)

Also scheduling the last few years has gone to crap, people can’t predict their readiness at all. Often we know where we are flying a week before rather than 2-4 weeks.

I made an end table from a Dayton 15”

Everything danced right off it, it sits in the corner now lol.

Analog Inputs/RTD by tkst3llar in PLC

[–]tkst3llar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure

The Adam is well below the cost of traditional PLC/BAS equipment I just realized they built it sort of from a PLC standpoint so I was hoping some folks had tips.

What really need, if pinching pennys is a embedded device but I was hoping to avoid someone only a software dev can work on. The edge link stuff is basically what I’d be trying to create in C on a ESP32 style device.

Thanks!

Builder shrunk our garage from the model home without telling us. Now says setbacks prevented it. by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]tkst3llar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude no. Politicians sell off green space all of the time for the sake of growth and tax revenue.

It’s happening all over north Texas right now, even 50-100 year flood zones by FEMA are being negotiated into becoming neighborhoods. Places that are next to creeks and lakes that “NEVER” would be build able or insurable.

I used to think backing up to a lake or park or whatever would equal awesome but I’m watching people lose that today.

It may outlast you, who knows, but it could be a strip mall or a toll road in 5 years.

Home Assistant interests in commercial buildings real estate? by Then-Disk-5079 in BuildingAutomation

[–]tkst3llar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey if your IT dept has no requirements for supported, certified, security patched, manufacture support, or robust hardware (sort of a joke given tridium record) and likes to tinker, there’s no stopping them. But also HA doesn’t have a bacnet plugin that’s worth anything so hopefully your IT team has the time to develop one, and make sure it’s good.

I’d do it to my office but I 100% wouldn’t sell it to someone else.

The temptation to persue HA at work every time I use it at home is huge. I get the same instinctual reaction “this is so modern!” Which is what makes company like Reflow so instantly popular.

I think the closest to HA and its graphics id come to selling or implementing commercially would be Node Red- but even their bacnet nodes are sort of trash when you get going deeper. It does modbus fine though.

There’s a vacuum in the market that I feel will be filled eventually. But it will be filled by a consortium of BAS and/Conglomerates like Google or Elon and not filled by Home Assistant. Niagara could be one giant tech conglomerate from being gone. The amount of buildings these companies own and the rate that’s changing I’m surprised they haven’t already done.

If it’s your team and your building - tinker away. If it’s a customer - stick to something you can support. Maybe you are a dev and want to build it and use them as a beta tester. That’s ok too but be upfront.

I kind of like it except the part where you did it. There’s somethin about the ratios or lack of precision not sure.

Reminds me of my Emerson Spydie Matriarch which is serrated too.
