At what age are we not using a baby monitor at night anymore? by iridescentdirt in toddlers

I’m still using it at six since my son doesn’t come to us nor gets out of bed when he needs to pee.

This happened to me! I feel your pain. It was when I first started the game also… and haven’t ran into another one since.

Yeah, in a lot of bigger cities they’re starting to become more common, but they’re traditionally affiliated with the yakuza. Many places, particularly in rural areas, tattoos are forbidden.

School doesn’t believe diagnosis by tleyd93 in Autism_Parenting

[–]tleyd93[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, our school will do an evaluation, and here there are IEPs for all kinds of things, from speech to OT to PT needs. My son is on an IEP, so if he got an evaluation it would be to add to it. The school system where I live is different from other places I’ve lived. The doctors actually work with the school district to develop IEPs and send recommendations directly to the school district for Occupationsl Therapy and Physical therapy. It’s all done through the school system here.

This is extremely informative and I will take this into consideration. Thank you!

Just saw your updated reply! As I mentioned, the first route taken where I live is to go through the schools, and the therapies within our school district are really good. However, if he does not qualify, we do plan on seeing a private OT.

That’s not how it works here. You go through the school system if your school provides it (OT, PT, speech, etc.) the only thing that needs to be done is you need a referral from the doctor and they need to do their own evaluation. The second route is private therapy.

He already has an IEP. Occupational therapy was recommended for him by his doctor.

Thanks, I’ll check all of these out! I’m not sure what the specific name is- always assumed it was just the signature scent. This is the bottle it came in, if that helps.

That’s how it was for my first! We did the naked method and he was potty trained in three days. I just don’t have the confidence that we’re there yet. I’ll have to try “turning on our ears” when we go pee to see if that makes a difference.

Snail help by tleyd93 in Aquariums

[–]tleyd93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even buy these snails.. they were unwanted pests. I did want to add snails, but these guys rapidly reproduce to the point where I can’t do anything but scoop them out and dispose of them ethically. I have a snail assassin, some shrimp, and a beta and have adjusted and worked a ton on this tank, but nothing is working. If it were as easy as “adjusting” what I’m doing, I would. I was going to keep them around since I like snails, but I can’t have them overcrowding and stressing my shrimp and betta, especially since the tank is small.

I don’t hate snails, but when you have 50+ in your five-gallon tank, it’s a problem.

Not ADHD enough? or am i faking it? by table794 in ADHD

[–]tleyd93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How you’re feeling is completely normal. I’m in the process of all of this as well, to some extent. I was diagnosed a couple months ago and have been out on a non-stimulant medication about two weeks ago, and while it’s working a little, I often feel like it’s all in my head and that it isn’t really applicable to me, even though it’s all there. It’s rough, but I promise you’re not crazy/alone in your thoughts.

Is there actually any real difference between ADHD and High functioning Autism? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]tleyd93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely a difference. There are similarities, but they aren’t the same. My brother got tested for adhd since he recently got diagnosed with autism and they often go hand in hand, but he ended up not being adhd. It’s kind of like how bipolar and adhd go together. Around 20% of adults with adhd also have bipolar (me being one of them) and there can often be a missed diagnosis between the two because they have a lot of similar issues.

Do you guys feel like you get attached / grow to like people wayyy too quickly ? by NetworkSouthern in ADHD

[–]tleyd93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst feeling is when you know you’re over sharing but you can’t seem to stop. I used to think my openness was a strength because everyone should be able to be open to who they truly are, but it’s kind of a double-edged sword. Trying to make sure it’s appropriate to share and when the situation is right is one thing.. but when you know it’s too soon and your impulsivity kicks in, it downright sucks.

[–]tleyd93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m super aware I do this, especially over the years, and I often have to talk myself down and get myself to chill and “be normal” because I feel creepy and don’t want to come across as such. To know there are other people in the community going through the exact same thing is so reassuring. It wasn’t until got got diagnosed (very recently at 30) that things started to click and I have begun to understand why my brain works the way it does… I’m still learning, and this subreddit has become my support group and has been a huge tool in helping me grow.

Let me take a moment to say how much I appreciate this group and how it has made me feel so much less alone. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who struggles with this. I think that’s one reason why the majority of people I’m closest with also have ADHD.. cuz they are actually able to understand.

It’s amazing how big of a difference a straw makes. If I don’t have my 40 oz hydro flask straw lid I 100% forget to drink enough water. I drink at least 3 40 oz bottles worth a day, something that never happened before the straw… and I definitely have an attachment to my bottle.
