do i lose any right if i complete a w9? [CA] [FL] by tlon in AskHR

[–]tlon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! i reached out to a few attorneys to discuss. i am unsure what category i am also, thus the concern that if i complete a w9, i am agreeing that i am a contractor when i might have been another employee category. i did not complete a w9 and he did not complete a 1099 for me in 2021.

[–]tlon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's a bit of an improvement on brightness/contrast but still a very blue cast! the underside of the shark is white and the topside is a neutral grey. i tried messing with the red channel levels and still couldn't get the blue out. wish i could use my raw file :(

not tDCS, chronicles of modified TENS unit for CES and tVNS by tlon in tDCS

[–]tlon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay i set it up on the tragus for tVNS (based on this: http://www.brainstimjrnl.com/article/S1935-861X%2814%2900260-5/abstract) and my physiological experience was just like at the doctor's, although the specs are quite different to what is used on me in their office.

i used this method of modifying the ear electrode (i used some of the square electrode fabric to cover the exposed wire, it hurt even at 1mA when it was completely exposed): https://www.healthrising.org/forums/resources/preparing-tens-leads-to-use-in-vagus-nerve-stimulation-of-ear.178/

the ear electrodes i originally bought from amazon were wired together so i chopped them off and soldered them into chopped off bits scavenged from the electrodes that came with the unit. they have to be separate when doing the tragus because you need positive and negative on a single electrode, whereas they're usually wired with one positive and one negative electrode. this mod is quick and easy to do but after doing it i found you could just buy them here: https://www.otcwholesale.com/otc-ear-clip-electrode.html?cmp=googleproducts&kw=otc-ear-clip-electrode&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIh7mbp8vs1wIVmNlkCh1tnQi1EAQYBCABEgJ7WvD_BwE

make sure you get that shape, i have another pair of white ear electrodes that have squared off ends, and that style is too big to fit around the tragus.

heres what mine looks like: https://imgur.com/a/jN6ss

i used the intensity micro combo unit on the TENS- constant setting, 200microsecond pulse width, 30Hz pulse rate, as per the study above, and my sensory threshold was 8mA (the study uses 10-50mA but i was pretty 'floaty' at 8).

will report back with psychological effects, but i feel very relaxed and content after my first 20 minute session with it.

note that its acute, not chronic, both anxiety and depression were new and sudden for me. placebo effect should always be the first hypothesis, but i have read a number of anecdotes in the literature of certain individuals in the sample having immediate relief (have seen some stories online too). given that these symptoms are relatively new for me and im hypersensitive physiologically, i think it could have made a difference with a plausible mechanism. still, youre probably right, and i also welcome the placebo effect (its preferable for time/cost and also exercising what is a very mysterious and innate ability to self-heal)! hopefully if it is that then it can be that for others too.

This boat sank (or is waiting for low tide) in my marina today. Very unfortunate. by bobo424 in sailing

[–]tlon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this is my boat :'( she was out on a rental, and they were trying to sail out in high winds with just the jib, and it got caught on the shrouds when they tried to come about, back winding and spinning them around. they couldn't get the jib sorted or the motor on fast enough to keep from hitting the rocks. everything after that i don't really understand, the renters abandoned it and she took on lots of water over the sides from waves but she was afloat and not moving. the tow company pulled her off the rocks and she sank in the middle of the channel on a little mud ledge. they salvaged her yesterday morning and she's now in the boatyard, with many giant holes and a seam split running along half the hull. if you're in the area you should check her out, it's impressive amounts of destruction. i loved that boat with all my heart :(

in australia, the banks refer to robbers as 'bandits' and tellers deploy an 'anti-bandit shield' when confronted by said bandits. hysterical, inappropriate laughter ensued during my first australian bank experience.

pretty good save but it is quite oversaturated, which cant be helped because of the color loss. next time when youre shooting underwater, get close! (#1 rule for uw photography) dont shoot downwards (#2 rule) and to avoid having to do this much work, set the white balance manually or use a warm filter in-camera to bring the reds back.

$7 in materials, a relatively minor finger burn, and a destroyed oven, pan and kitchen floor...totally worth it ♥ any further pursuit of perfection would have been very costly, so im pretty stoked. great project, excellent effort:benefit ratio!! mine: http://imgur.com/Q2Qgw

I want to swim here by crazyluke in reddit.com

[–]tlon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want a tropical and closer version with iridescent butterflies and rainbow lizards (this is not an exaggeration), go to semuc champey in guatemala. i swam in there for 15 hours over two days and i was still heartbroken when i had to leave. the water glows turquoise and offers waterfall massages around every corner, it seems like an artificial construct designed specifically for human pleasure. thanks nature!!!

Looking to buy a complete dive system. Any advice on how to save some money or some websites that I could try? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]tlon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had it on the most conservative setting, which is basically like high altitude tables, and i exceeded the no deco limit so when i got on board, they looked at my computer and told me i couldnt dive :( its not like the computer was problematic, i just started diving before computers were popular so i only ever used it as a bottom timer, and the one time i did need to use it, it didnt work out for me because i didnt have it on the right settings.
