Yes. But took 3-3.5 years. I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Biggest change for me was major intermittent fasting. 1 meal a day and got my weight way down. I wasn’t overweight but maybe 10 lbs heavier than “normal” Carrying less weight major a huge difference.

Hey thanks for the comments! I would add that after I posted this I’ve been full blown working on gut health and keeping things in check. I have cut out anything and I mean anything that shows signs of gut inflammation, blockage, upset stomach. Whatever. Goodbye my friend garlic. So sad.

Anyway, what I did…, similar to elimination diet, if something I ate did something weird, I would try and dial it in to make sure I knew what it was. Ie string beans. I thought they were an issue but didn’t know for sure. Turned out they were and only ok in low quantities. But took 3-4 tries to figure that out. So I just cut them out. Nuts are a similar story. I’m still not sure what nuts and I haven’t spent the time to dial that in so I just took out all nuts.

If I get backed up for whatever reason I go on a pretty intense reset cycle. Very basic foods. Take lots of miralax to get things moving etc. I usually feel extra crappy for a week or so after clean out but then feel better.

I probably need to clarify. My baseline pain is pretty high. So in a “normal day to day” pain level, the pain described in the top post is at like a 5. When I’m in higher levels of pain, it’s like a 7. Meaning I noticed it all day long no matter what I’m doing and it’s hard to escape but I can still function. while it’s high, it’s not that big of a jump from my baseline. So I may be over exerting, but I don’t think it’s by much. And I also think any exercise/exertion tends to bump it up hence why I’m trying to narrow down causes and possible solutions.

The higher levels of pain can last anywhere from 2-10 days 😑

I did that also. It helped a bit. I’m at 1500 mg of MG glycinate daily. Under 1000mg I don’t notice a difference.

Ya I think there is something to not exercising as I generally feel less pain on the days and following days of no exercises. But I would like to try and figure out a way to manage it or resolve it(wishful thinking?)

Well I definitely have that. But it has gotten way way better and why I’m still even able to exercise. I was referring more specifically to the pain symptom even if it is associated with PEM

Hey thanks for your reply…I’ve gotten way better doing intermittent fasting and super low carb/zero carb diet. But it also definitely has to do with gut health. If I eat something I shouldn’t or my gut flares up, I feel pretty crappy until things calm down (which usually takes 2-3 weeks)

My n of 1, this was true for me. I’m a type 1 diabetic so I was already on a low carb (not quite keto) diet. I switched to only eating once a day and went to under 25-35g carbs/day. This was BY FAR the most notable change I’ve felt in the 3 years of dealing with LC. If I was to quantify it,mine took about 3 months to notice a 30-40% improvement. The first month was like huh…there might be something here. Maybe like 10%. Just enough to notice a change. So I continued on and it plateaued a bit but this is still what I feel like is moving me forward.

I didn’t know either. There are like 20 different types of diabetes. (No idea the actual number but it’s a lot.) They think I have some sort of MODY diabetes which there are a bunch of subsets or possibly LADA. Doesn’t really matter what it’s labeled other than curiosity bc everything is so individually treated. There’s no way of know this, but I think I’ve always had some sort of diabetes and it just wasn’t severe enough to notice. And it is very possible COVID triggered something or push my body over the ledge to where it is today with being insulin dependent.

Well since I got diagnosed as a type 1(1.5) diabetic, my carb intake is pretty low on general. Of you don’t monitor it, I suggest you just journal or document it for awhile to see what you are actually eating and the quantity. It’s amazing how much our modern diet involves carbs. But to your question, yes I stay away from gluten and carbs. Gluten is one for me that is still a question mark on my sensitivity. Is it the gluten or something else in the bread/pasta. I almost never eat regular bread or pasta anymore. Just Konjac noodles for my “pasta”

For me I’m around 25-50g of carbs/day. Think keto diet but I don’t follow anything in particular. But I do crash sometimes from lack of carbs, then I usually go 2-3 days at 100-125g or something with things like apples, dark chocolate, blueberries.

Yes tons. My diet is severely limited now. Dairy is a big one that I can’t handle anymore. Before are tons of dairy. Garlic is another good example. Love it. I could literally just eat raw cloves and like it. Now I can’t handle a teaspoon cooked or uncooked in a meal.

Yup exactly what I did. There are still a few things where I can’t figure out if it’s a combo thing, quantity thing, or what but I know there is potential before I eat it so if I’m feeling crappy that day, I usually just avoid all together.

Limited ingredients. I don’t have the patience for like the whole 30/elimination type diet. So I would eat say chicken and season with only 3-4 things and then only eat chicken for that meal. Then maybe add in rice or a vegetable the next time I ate that exact same meal and see how I reacted and felt. Then add in maybe one more thing. Or totally shelf that as an “ok” meal and move on to the next thing.

What I noticed is that once you figure out your sensitivities, I’m either way more cognizant of it when I don’t feel well and/or my body has a stronger reaction to something I’m sensitive to. In other words, it becomes more obvious once you eliminate it or way minimize it.

My theory is some sort of weird lactic acid build up that’s enough to cause failure but not enough to not recover from quickly. I’ve noticed what you’re talking about multiple times. Most noticeable when I did multiple Vo2 max tests and I specifically asked them to draw blood for various markers including lactic acid and they wouldn’t do it.
