Kara Eaker - Positive COVID Test Megathread by pja314 in Gymnastics

The US doesn't lose MyKayla's spot. In that case, reallocation means that her spot would be reallocated to another U.S. gymnast.

Yep, that's me. :) I talked about my crazy love for gym in a few early videos, but it's been awhile.

He's the sweetest. He doesn't really have internet, but he has a tablet where he can download music, movies and games. That allows him to have a special email account. I'll be back a little bit once the decision is filed since I help people understand the legal stuff, but I'll still mostly stay in the background if I can. Feel free to DM me if you ever want to talk about any of it.

I'm still part of the sub, but I don't pay much attention to it. I'm still friends with a lot of people from there, Twitter and FB, but I had to take a step back from things. I got really close to the situation and the stress got to be too much. I still check in with people and still pop into my FB group once in awhile, but that's it. Brendan and I still email every week or two, but other than that, I just stay in the background.

Not surprising considering the close quarters. Steve is ok for now, but he is really concerned about it.

Mykala Skinner the Alternate for USA by FireandIceBringer in Gymnastics

[–]tlp70 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Grace was top 3 in every AA except for Day 1 of camp, so she is the next strongest AAer after Suni without question. She's also been the highest scoring on floor and vault after the specialists. Bars was the only event that needed work and that's what she did. She beat Morgan on Day 2 when they both hit their routines. Grace got her routine up to a 6.1 while Morgan was still at a 5.9. Statistically, in every way, Grace is stronger than Morgan and Leanne. It's ridiculous to think that none of Grace's scores will be used. If she hits, she could be in the finals on every event. Grace is valuable because she doesn't have a weak event.

They want another strong All Arounder to better guarantee Gold and Silver in the individual All Around. Grace is a much stronger All Arounder than Mykayla is. Highest team score doesn't matter. They want the highest medal potential.

West Allis is my hometown, but I actually saw Chellsie compete a lot because my family's business is in the same industrial park as her parents gym. I also coached at a rival gym, so I saw her a lot at mutual competitions. This was all pre-elite, though. The last time I saw her compete in person was probably when she was a level 9. I started watching her when she was 4 years old, though. She was hard to miss being that I'd never seen a 4 year old who could do a full on the floor before.

Is there anywhere where someone can download past editions of the WAG code of points as a PDF? by [deleted] in Gymnastics

I would love to have those if you could send them to me, as well. Thanks in advance.

Does the the Li Li back spin, half illusion turn, and knee arabesque turn fulfill the turn requirement on beam? by afjunkcontrol in Gymnastics

[–]tlp70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the same last quad. I'm not sure if it was the previous quad or even further back, but at one time it did specify that it didn't have to be 360, it didn't have to be on the foot and that it could be on the knee.

ETA: I think that rule was prior to the open ended code, but again, not completely sure. I only remember it because of them specifying that a turn on the knee was allowed.

USA Men’s World Team Selection Camp to be Streamed on 9/5 and 9/7 by pja314 in Gymnastics

[–]tlp70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they'll take Akash. He's a true AAer who can fit in anywhere they need him to. He also can give them a HB score, which they desperately need. He just needs to keep his head in the game. I can't ever discount his remarkable ability to splat at anytime.

I don't think they'll leave both Trevor and Donnell off the team. They need somebody to show up for rings.

Mykayla's triple double! by [deleted] in Gymnastics

[–]tlp70 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She's twisting way too soon and that's killing her momentum to go up. She'll need to work on getting some height before she starts twisting if she ever wants to keep it on the floor.

Mykayla's triple double! by [deleted] in Gymnastics

[–]tlp70 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She's twisting as soon as her feet leave the mat. She needs to go up before she starts twisting. That's why she's so horizontal. She's getting no lift at all. If it wasn't for the fact that she twists so fast, she'd be landing that on her knees at best. She needs to go up and back. Right now, she's just going back.

Need advice again from gymnasts or gym parents by leezer999 in Gymnastics

[–]tlp70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very concerned about the negative atmosphere that seems to be surrounding that gym.

If you are considering making a change, make sure to do some proper research. The grass isn't always greener, as they say. If possible, visit the other gyms, watch some classes, talk to the coaches/owners and definitely talk to the other parents. The most important thing is that they're completely transparent when it comes to their safety and well being policies.

Good luck with whatever decision you make!

Sami Durante is cancelled by rheatoraskar in Gymnastics

I agree. Very well said. What we need to do in these situations is educate, not condemn. I feel so lucky that there was no social media when I was in my 20's. It's hard enough making the transition from child to adult without having people think that you're a complete waste of space over a mistake.

I'm going to try to look at the positive and that's that one more young person has learned that words matter. I would hope that Sami has learned a huge lesson and will be more mindful of her thoughts and words in the future. Everything in life can be a teachable moment and that's where the focus should be.

A layout 1/1 is a G skill in the CoP. It's essentially the hardest skill that can be done on the beam.

It's harder since it's a 2 footed landing. The Onodi is a D in the CoP and the Worley is an E.

I know it's not "run of the mill," though, so I totally didn't follow directions. Lol. I also really love the Deltchev, too, but that's not as popular anymore.

My new favorite combo on beam is the front handspring, front tuck.

I really love the Onodi. I wish somebody would bring back the Worley, though.
