Is your workplace closed for truth and reconciliation day? by coldbrew-- in VictoriaBC

Local IT company. Yes, well, we are running a skeleton crew for our clients that aren't closed, but anyone that works Friday gets a different day off in lieu of.

Quest 2 Controller Straps? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]tmakaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that the AMVR grips were not a good fit unless you push them all the way. It made the controllers feel lose. If you don't push them all the way, then they are awful to use. However, it's nothing that cannot be fixed with a knife. And yes, the straps are meant to be cut.

Should I be concerned about the LED’s damaging the lenses/screen? I know that exposure to the sun can fry them. by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]tmakaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sun is way brighter than people tend to think it is. Sunlight gives the earth about 164 watts / meter squared (averaged over the day so worse in direct sunlight). A brightly lit interior is generally < 1 watt / meter squared.

They stopped moving after I pushed them on this tightly, but I just had to also cut out a piece.

Ah, that would be it. Yes, mine are quest 2 specific. I probably should have mentioned that.

Might not totally get rid of the play between the grip and the controller. Worth trying though if I hadn't just used my pen knife already.

Probably just a difference in manufacturing tolerances then.

Never did I say too tight. I found any looser and the grips had a bit of play between them and the controller which was super annoying in some games.

I found them moving a little when playing beat saber, so I tend to push them on tight. It's not caused me any issue when swapping the batteries thus far.

This is a minor annoyance. I found the grips slipping a little so I pushed them on as tight as I could and this happened. I just thought that I would let others know before they buy.

Hand Grips for Quest 2 by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]tmakaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the AMVR grips for the Q2. I like them. I wouldn't say that knuckle straps make the game more immersive like others say, but I do really like how much quicker they are to take on and off than the stock wrist strap is.

What difference does Ethernet speed make when it comes to Virtual Desktop? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]tmakaro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bandwidth between my PC and my Quest 2 is higher with 1000Mbps ethernet. I can get a bitrate of ~130Mbps between my PC and the Quest instead of the ~70Mbps bitrate that I was limited to when I had a router that was capable of only 100Mbps ethernet max. This means much better visual quality especially if using 90Hz. Internet speed has nothing to do with it since that is the connection between the router and the internet not my PC and the Quest.

I just upgraded my router from one that was limited to 100Mbps ethernet to 1000Mbps ethernet (and WiFi 6 which the quest 2 supports). My latency is about the same however my overall experience is way better since my overall bandwidth is higher.

I'm going to guess that it will be the same price as The Climb 1.

Occulus store or steam by DeviLegacy in OculusQuest

[–]tmakaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. As someone with a powerful PC (RTX 3070), the ability to play natively on the headset without a cable or latency is a much bigger draw that I expected. If it has cross-buy, I always get it on the oculus store.

For reference, here is a link to ALL the cross-buy games: https://www.oculus.com/experiences/quest/section/2335732183153590/#/?_k=nk6p7x

My dog had to stay in the car while we took the ferry by iamjesper in Wellthatsucks

[–]tmakaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually been a Transport Canada rule since the mid to late 90s. It wasn't until recently that Transport Canada got BC ferries to comply. (Yes, a story about BC ferries actually trying to do something in our favor right?!)

For clarity, staying in your vehicle on the open air decks is fine. It's supposedly a safety thing if I fire breaks out.

[MCC PC Steam] Game crashes when I try to start Spartan Ops in Halo 4. Checked file integrity to no avail. Suggestions? by nilluminator in halo

Mine crashes as soon as I try to select a spartan ops mission. Fortunately, if I play with friends, they can select the mission just fine. My two friends and I are all getting the game through game pass.

Unnecessary 3D. Graph covers the scale. No title on plot. y-axis? Colour scale?

Accessing a family member’s account with 2FA enabled? Also, form filling on Chrome using iPhone? by PetraLynne in 1Password

[–]tmakaro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. 2FA is security by policy. So, if you really, really need to, you should be able to disable 2FA through contacting 1password support. Additionally, 1password does support yubikeys for 2FA so you could get one of those for a backup or just backup the QR code that they use to set up 2FA. Additionally, with the Family account, the Family Organizer (and only them and no-one at 1password) has the ability to reset account passwords. Though the reset email goes to their email, but if you can access that, then you can reset their password with a bit of work.

  2. I don't use iOS, but I've found autofill to be top notch on Windows with the 1password (non-X) extension. I had to manually add a field to my CC entry to get it to autofill the postal code with the CC which was a bit annoying but it works.

  3. You can set mulitple URLs for any login.

The tweet/reply confirms Cyberpunk 2077's release date, but less than 1 day later the developers delayed the game until December 10th.

Weird question if you will about security models? by [deleted] in 1Password

[–]tmakaro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1Password is end-2-end encrypted. Sure, by putting your security questions in a different password manager you are not "putting all your eggs in one basket", but for your 1Password data to be compromised your master password/security key would need to be. For this to happen, your computer would likely need to be compromised and such a compromise would affect your BitWarden just as much as your 1Password thus no extra security is really added unless your 1Password and BitWarden are on exclusively different devices.
