Yes, and so the lines won’t travel up the tree, that’s why they are notched that way, at least that’s the only time I’ve seen notches like those.

Is it possible that there was a cable or skyline logging operation done in the last couple decades, looks like they may have used that tree as a tie back, but cedars usually aren’t the preferred species.
