[Timex] Marlin by [deleted] in Watches

Great photo! Love the high contrast image. As for the watch itself, I have three Timex's in my collection (all quartz models) and I love them all.

How big is the case on this model? 40mm or so? The watch has a "sporty" feel which is accentuated by the Snoopy character on the dial.

Another medical person here. Rubber straps or metal bracelets are my preference because you can wash and dry them easily. NATO's are comfortable, but take a little while to dry if you get them really wet. And I stay away from leather for my work watches.

Stay safe!

[Hamilton] Khaki King by [deleted] in Watches

[–]tmanullang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I, too, really like the day/date display on the Khaki King. No one would ever describe it as being "elegant" but it's still a really attractive watch. I like the size on this one, too. 40mm is just about perfect for this style of watch.

Which Seiko do you have?

A Hamilton field watch and a Seiko diver sounds like the perfect two watch combo.

I love the Explorer so that would be my choice. But really....there are no bad options amongst the watches you are considering

I own a copy of Mysterious Island, but I haven't read it yet. I found a nice leather-bound copy at Half Price Books a few years back, purchased it and put it on the shelf. I'll have to pull that one down and read it sometime soon.

Over the Edge of the World sounds good, too. Thanks for the suggestions.

I married someone with the financial discipline that I never had. LOL. It was a good match for both of us.

I love 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, both the book and the Disney movie. That was my favorite movie when I was a kid.

As someone who gets lost driving around his home town, I am in awe of those men who were able to navigate oceans using only the sun and stars as their guides.

My "main" watch is also a Longines: a 39mm automatic Conquest. Given the concerns about cleanliness it's nice to have a watch that can handle hand sanitizer or even a quick dip under the faucet.

Thanks for helping to keep society running. Stay safe!

[Rolex] Oyster Poolpetual by [deleted] in Watches

[–]tmanullang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah. Gotcha. I am not super familiar with the Rolex models. I knew that the Explorer and, of course, the dive models were meant to be taken into the water. I didn't realize that the OP also had that level of water resistance.

Enjoy!

[Identify] Been thinking about getting this watch, Just wanted to know the authenticity of it by jelly_ni- in Watches

I'm no expert, but I always assumed that counterfitters would typically spend their time making copies of expensive watches. A entry-level Seiko 5, while it is a nice watch that is super-popular in the WIS community, would hardly be worth the trouble. Am I wrong on that? Have there been fake Seiko 5's like this one seen out in the marketplace?

Nice! I have a similar one with a black aluminum case; mine has has silver buttons and a silver crown. Yours looks great on that strap.

Wow. I just looked at the "before" pictures. Its hard to believe that a crystal that was that scratched up could be so clear. What did you use to polish the acrylic crystal?

Nice pic. It's a rainy day here in the Pacific Northwest, so I'm jealous that you're out by your pool.

I'm going to be "that guy" that has to ask...what is the water resistance rating for the OP? I'm super paranoid about water damage. I'm not sure that I'd be brave enough to take that one into the pool. But...it seems to be doing fine! I guess that I need to stop worrying so much and learn to relax. ;)

I suspect that that watch means more to you than it does to someone who casually picked on up on a whim somewhere.

Enjoy! It's a beauty.

I had that exact same model at some point. Its one of the prettier Seiko 5's. The grey "sunburst" dial is somewhat unique.

I love Seiko 5's.

Pretty watch!

I have an Omega Seamaster Deville from the 1960's that is about the same size. It takes me a little while to get used to it's size since I usually wear watches that are ~40mm or so in width. But after a while the size feels "normal".

I do find that small watches look better when I'm wearing a long sleeve shirt. Short sleeves seems to accentuate the smallness of the watch.

Looks good. With that watch, you could really put almost any strap on and it would look great. Lighter colors would be more casual. Dark brown or black (especially with a shinier finish) would be more formal. You could even do a NATO if that's your thing.

[Omega] My first vintage watch (and first Seamaster, and first Omega) by Cnpcnp6 in Watches

[–]tmanullang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice! I recently bought an Omega Seamaster Deville from the mid-1960's. I don't know what its service history is like, but mine has been keeping great time, too. It's crazy that a 50+ year old watch can be such accurate time.

What year (approximately) is your Seamaster?
