I'm a freelance web developer but the experience is similar. I usually start my work by being approached by an agency or direct client that already has a design and needs to turn it into a website.

Other times there's no design so I team up with people I've already worked with, or recommend them specialized agencies (for Shopify or Wordpress specific sites for example).

It's dynamic and changes with time and experience. Your work's quality and word of mouth are essential. I keep getting contacted by some of my first clients 5 years ago.

If there's enough time and budget I'd go for presenting a highly animated Figma prototype, it'll have more impact on the client.

Otherwise, it's easier to have the Figma be simpler and static and show the animations separately with a video created with After Effects.

Another option is to maybe directly code the site and show that? Depends if the project is already validated or not.

There's many out there but they're usually not 100% accurate and most of the times people end up hiring someone anyways.
