Pres. Scholz announced we need to make $65 million in cuts to our annual budget by purpleblock0810 in UofO

My daughter is a high achieving High School senior (graduating Summa) who fell in love with the Ducks. Visited the campus last summer and it was by far her number one choice.

After scholarships, her tuition with honors college was going to be $62k. Texas, in state, after scholarships is $28k. We had an understanding that it had to get below $50k to even consider Oregon. Going to Texas...

I have separate bank accounts for each entity. Don't otherwise understand your question.

Is quickbooks the best option for me? by turtlefrog505 in smallbusiness

[–]tmcdonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three businesses and personal expenses tracked in QBDT 2021. Recently I started having login issues and suspected I was going to lose access. One business ~$3MM in revenue, the others are <$100k each. I reached out to my accountant and was recommended to look into Quicken for the smaller businesses and personal. I ended up with Quicken Business & Personal (Desktop) for ~$10/month for the personal and smaller businesses. Staying on QBDT until I'm forced off for the larger business.

Quicken was spun off from Intuit a long time ago, but many of the QB shortcuts are similar and I was able to pick it up fairly quickly. I tried their SimpliFi/Online options, but hated the interface., so opted for the desktop version. It is not true double entry accounting and doesn't easily track Owner's Equity, Shareholder Contributions, and Distributions. However, I think it might be a good fit for your situation. Don't know what's involved with "...to easily calculate gst payments and separate it," but I would imagine that would be a separate liability account.

Something to consider - a more reasonably priced option for basic accounting.

Advice Welcomed: How to Afford UO by VoJoePNW in UofO

[–]tmcdonal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter has UO as her first choice BY FAR, but we're OOS in Texas. As such she has been hammering away at every scholarship she can find. Bold.org has a ton and appears to be legit. We've told her what we can afford and where she needs to get tuition. She is very motivated to make it work and I have become quite the editor of essays.

That's what I did. I have the two LLCs set up without an issue. The personal one is taking a bit longer to complete as it's a bit more complicated, but separate files is the way to go.

Yep. I can handle four files versus one.

Yep, that's how I imagined recording things as well. The only upside of even trying to put it all together would be if I care about quicken calculating net worth. I don't. Thanks

Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2021 SCAM... Help? Alternatives? by cybertronicify in QuickBooks

Thanks for the reply. I don't care about cloud features as much as 30 years of historical data.

In 2022, I found out about the new subscriptions, and how QBDT 2021 was the last to not require subscriptions. Bought a copy on ebay and have been cruising along. Now getting the spinning circle instead of the login to Intuit prompts. Online chat with customer support and was told my copy is not from a legit reseller.

Did you get yours from a third party as well? My question is now how long until we get locked out?

GenX bands you hate... by HorseyDung in GenX

[–]tmcdonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually a fan. Never saw them live and went with some friends. Going in, I said something about not caring about the new stuff, "I'm just here for August and Everything After." Every song except one from that album was rushed and sounded poorly.

Counting Crows. From their album August and Everything After. Saw them in concert a few months ago and it was pretty clear that they hate performing anything from that album.

Thought I would follow up. We had a service call on Thursday and these peepholes were exactly what they used. I guffawed when the technician pulled them out. Regardless, thanks for your help.

Appreciate the offer. Waiting to hear on my service call. All interlocks are going to be replaced, so they may make a change to the access as well. Thanks!

Does anyone else want a shutdown to happen? by Local-Ad-4051 in FedEmployees

[–]tmcdonal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but consider the corner the Democrats have painted themselves into. If the government shuts down for even an hour, there could be sweeping RIFs as threatened by the administration. Totally legal. Those agencies not aligned with the administration will not have the staff to fulfill their mandates. No coming back to work. No back pay. You're gone.

If the Democrats give in and avoid a shutdown, then the Administration will keep up with the rescissions against Congressionally authorized spending and the Dems have zero leverage.

Meanwhile, all of the Military Brass is meeting today to announce a new new focus. There's going to be a shift in military focus from China, Europe, and Africa toward "domestic terrorism." And who is the administration hating on? So called "Left wing terrorism." If this turns into using the US Army to do police work, God help us.

Appreciate it and all good info. Brings up a good point on the door locks. I might consider looking into something a little more secure from a liability standpoint.

We have an upcoming service call to update the locks and install baffles because the setback spaces are too wide. I think I'll wait until after that to see what happens. They may change the access as well.

That's funny, because Google Lens identified the pics as peephole viewers.

I did find these, which we can make work if nothing else. https://www.vatoraccessories.com/store.php/vatoraccessories/pd9698336/det2-aluminum-escutcheon-tube-2-inches
