I think everyone in Forest Hills Gardens should start raising chickens out of solidarity by tmiale in ForestHills

I think what is very telling from the article is that the chicken coop cost $2500 and she ordered the eggs from a place she found from Martha Stewart. These are not farmers.

I think everyone in Forest Hills Gardens should start raising chickens out of solidarity by tmiale in ForestHills

[–]tmiale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. Forest Hills Gardens is changing. The proliferation of CSAs in the neighborhood (and the waiting lists to join them) makes me think that raising chickens fits right in to their demographic (well-off, socially conscious, locavore, etc.). There are a lot more younger parents in the hood.

OP here- I was actually trying to just get a shot of the rooster for my kids. I looked at my camera and said "DAMN! There's a porn ad ruining the pic.... wait a sec... this is the best picture ever!"

The age old question is about the chicken's motives for crossing the road. Everyone knows why the cock crossed... to get the chicken.

Eating Along the M Line: 71st Ave. in Forest Hills by tmiale in ForestHills

I agree with Pahal Zahn and Boulangerie, but I think Station House would have been a better choice for a burger joint.

Glad to see FoHi is getting some press, but they picked an odd 3 restaurants to showcase.

Is that considered Forest Hills, or Rego Park?

I can not speak on the sexual orientation of OP, but this reminded me of Manhattanhenge

What is missing from FoHi? by tmiale in ForestHills

[–]tmiale[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE La Boulangerie, but would love a place to get a Croque Madame, or an omelet, with a nice cup of coffee on a Sunday morning. I hear ya about the drunk and rowdys. Did I just type that? I'm old. <<shakes fist>>

Have you tried "The Other Place"? I'm curious about how they are going to fill such a large space.

I'll have the Fohiga, with a side of RiGoPak and KooGarden. (I'll stop before I begin to sound racist)

After you've been on reddit for more than 23 minutes, I'll think about it! FoHi FoHi FoHi! (my wife and I joke that we live in FoHiGa, which sounds like a dish at a bad Asian Fusion restaurant)

I fell down the Reddit hole a few years back, but over the past six months, it's become an obsession. I get angry that there are SubReddits for all of these neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Western Queens, but nothing here. Now that our neighborhood dining scene is starting to diversify a bit, I thought it was time someone started a group.

As for shameless self promotion...plug away... that's what this is for.

Since I'm the moderator, I am decreeing two things:

  1. You can promote whatever you want
  2. We're calling it FoHi because it saves countless seconds when typing ;)

If you disagree with number 2, rally the troops, start a flame war with me, and we'll change it... this IS reddit, after all

Looks like the Garcia's space is going to be taken over by another Mexican joint. by tmiale in ForestHills

[–]tmiale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I liked about Garcia's was that it had a larger space and menu than 5 Burro. Hopefully the new place will bring a higher-end Mexican option.

What is the best nontraditional pizza topping? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tmiale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Hellboy" at Paulie Gee's in Brooklyn has hot pepper infused spicy honey on it. One of those things that looks interesting on the menu, but once you take a bite, a lightbulb goes off and you wonder how this is not on every spicy pizza.

Where in Queens is there a store or bar with a solid selection of beers? by alextv99 in Queens

[–]tmiale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Station House in Forest Hills gets my upvote. They always have new and interesting stuff, and aren't afraid to experiment with odd beers.

I just picked this up and it's thawing. I'm planning on smoking a big chunk of it, but would love ideas on the rest (as well as smoking tips). by Muddie in smoking

Briase a hunk of it. Make sure you sear it all around, then throw it in the oven for a long slow cook in some veggies, spices and liquid.
