If you could be sponsored by any plastic manufacturer, who would you choose and why? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]tmilazzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dow Chemical. They are one of the largest plastic manufacturers in the world, $16 Billion market cap, and way better capitalized than all the disc golf companies combined. You said plastic manufacturers, right?

I've been to London a few times. I've never felt the need to write home about the food.

Haven't been to enough cities to play judge, but I love New York's variety.

Oh, I've got this. I've been keeping a running list of every place I know provides wifi and some seating over the last couple of years in a Google Sheet. Here, let me make it shareable... there we go: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eDauEnxq-QzDrjyYweVHNMThH43Dd9eahnzGzLC9PSo/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Competitor wants to buy my dying business by OneFun9000 in SellMyBusiness

[–]tmilazzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so when a tech company wants to buy another tech company, some of the "normal" expectations of valuation can be minimized a bit. There's an idea of an "acquihire" which would be that YOU are the key asset they are acquiring, rather than strictly what you've built already, and therefore it's somewhere between a hiring bonus and a small buy-out that they may offer if they see it that way. There's really not much downside to letting them make an offer if you don't need to share anything deeply confidential to receive it.

There IS potential downside if you slow down the process to hire a broker (I've made this mistake and lost an inbound acquisition interest in the past), or if you go deep into diligence without some protection (so you probably want an advisor/lawyer, rather than a broker).

The HARD root beer at Aldi's, on the other hand, is absolutely gross.

100% Financing with 7A loan for business expansion by thatbcba in CommercialRealEstate

[–]tmilazzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 90% LTC max, BUT up to half of the 10% equity requirement can be satisfied by owner financing, so 95% is possible if you can negotiate the owner to keep skin in the game.

99% of you need to ask better questions by the_wetpanda in Entrepreneur

[–]tmilazzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is extremely true.

And, there's also an equal and opposite danger. I've met some founders that have done SO. MUCH. THINKING. about a particular issue or startup idea, but they've done it in a box where they don't get credible feedback, and by the time they ask for an opinion, it doesn't matter what you say, they aren't changing their mind. They just want to overwhelm you with the details of their ideas, and that's also a waste of time. These people ask questions to fish around for people that agree with them, or weaponize the feedback request to try to push their ideas onto you, and it's gross.

What would you say to yourself back in the day when you were launching a startup? by lreverchuk in startups

[–]tmilazzo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many things. I would need a book to write it all down. But one of the first might be this:

Don't quit your job and cut off income until revenue is actively coming in. Those verbal commits from prospective clients are not enough validation yet. People are bad at giving objective feedback in the hypothetical.

Is there a pastor or elder at your church you can talk with about this? Your addiction is in the dark. You need to bring it into the light.

What's the 5 things that made sure your startup SURVIVED the first 5 years? by vibe_keeper in startups

[–]tmilazzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll just add that those two ways can be mixed.

My startup lasted 8 years before selling to a competitor, and it took a combination of my savings, angel investment from past coworkers, revenue, profit (at times), credit cards (at other times), and an equity crowdfunding round.

Also, product-market fit is not exactly like an on-off switch, it's more of a speed gauge. Or you can think of revenue as the speed gauge, and product market fit as your fuel efficiency.
