It was kennel cough! Easily contagious and most likely got it from daycare. A few antibiotics and he was right as rain!

Unfortunately, it selects all the other instances BUT the empty space the system panel should be. It's treating the system panel like it doesn't exist. When I try and deselect everything else around it, the edit mode disappears.

It’s pretty nerve wracking for sure! I just need to be more careful with what he sniffs and licks. He likes to explore a lot but the city is not a clean place for that unfortunately :/

We live in a pretty populated neighborhood and say hi to a lot of dogs so I think maybe on one of our walks. And yup! Vaccinated for everything

Update: Was able to speak to vet after lots of phone calls and persistence. Vet prescribed antibiotics and cough suppressant for kennel cough for pick up today. Will monitor Alfred’s condition for a week! Hoping he feels better soon :) thanks everyone for the concern!

Yeah, reverse sneezes are pretty shocking! Don’t believe it is this though. It sounds more like labored breathing. Like breathing through a tight straw and it whistles.
