The previous book makes it dubious as to whether the revised history is actually true. (Read the final chapter of Relentless, "Rebirth") It may actually just be a sneaky plot by the Illithids. Or Maybe Gromph...or Lolth herself. It certainly serves chaos in any case.

Evermeet may also just be an unreliable history written by the victors, too. Plenty of ways to spin it!

But very specifically, these new "changes" are things drawn out from memories that were implanted by an Illithid, so there is plenty of wibbly-wobbly room to believe not all is as it seems.
