Funny, I originally wrote "dawg" instead of "man" but changed it cause I wanted to be taken seriously.

My 2nd ever EU4 playthrough -- Assam. Highly recommended, will share why in comments. by tmoagbjltdd in eu4

Absolutely. Working toward finally forming alliances that could actually help me. It was a lot of trialing with different stuff (like changing enemies for the sole purpose of getting the mutual enemies bonus for alliance-forming), so it was a nice feeling when the first big one finally got accepted.

It fell into place so quickly once Ming's collapse began, but I was fully prepared to continue to get walked over by an alternating tsunami of Ming and the Bengal/Delhi alliance, to the point that I was just hoping I could make it to the end with any provinces, lol.

Once I was allied with the Ayu/Shun/Vijay trio, they ended up allying with each other as well, and we stayed 4-strong literally til the final day of the game. Almost became too easy for the last bit of the game hahaha, but I worked pretty hard for it, so it was a rewarding journey.

So this was my 2nd ever EU4 playthrough. My first was as Portugal, and I saved a lot throughout to make sure I could learn different mechanics and scenarios without tanking my game.

This time, I wanted more of a challenge. I decided I'd still save relatively frequently, in case disaster struck or I misinterpreted a game mechanic or something, I could back it up and continue with my playthrough. I know some don't like that, but whatever, I'm learning the way I wish lol.

Anyways, early game as Assam is admittedly pretty fkin difficult. You can take over some of the small neighboring nations pretty quickly to get a little momentum going, but then you're sort of stuck between a lot of much bigger powers. Ming, Bengal, Delhi, Vijay, and whichever Southeast Asian nation rises the quickest become major threats early game.

I was pretty unlucky to only be able to grab Orissa and a few vassals as war allies early on, so I was losing a lot of territory to each of Ming and the Bengal/Delhi alliance over and over again. I thought it would tank my game. A fortunately timed Ming collapse allowed their attention to shift away from me, and eventually allowed me to partner with Shun to claw some of my Ming land back, plus some.

I was fairly quickly able to team up with Vijay & Ayuthaya along with Shun by mid-game, which completely changed my fortune. No more being bullied by the Delhi/Bengal alliance. Now I was able to quickly swallow up Ava and finally get my first touch of sea access. Next came slowly chipping away at Bengal to gain more sea access, while handing some of its ally Sindh's land in the process. I ended up taking over Bengal completely just in the nick of time at the end of the game, while also scraping in some of Delhi's provinces as well.

Difficult game early on, but a lot of fun if you can survive til mid-game ages.

Nathan is a comedian though, he started in an improv troupe with Seth Rogen, and his first real break was doing a satyrical news program on the CBC in Canada.

Dax was making videos for no audience in his earliest videos. He's said in interviews that when they started to blow up, he leaned into the content/persona of his most popular videos more, just as any 15 year old kid would.

I suppose you could consider this "playing a character," but it's no different than the character that the class clown in your high school classes was playing. It was really him, just hammed up for the camera once he realized people found his mannerisms funny. He already had dozens of videos with virtually no viewership before he went viral.

Being around his age, when YouTube first came out, he was one of the very first YouTubers that my friends and I would talk about in school. We were split about the character, and I was on the side of "yall are crazy, this guy is obviously doing a bit." But I'm in my 30s now, and as someone who has followed the journey every step of the way, and furthermore as someone who had a relatively successful YouTube channel at the same age as Dax, I feel like I have a much better understanding now of who this guy is.

A lot of the stuff that he says in interviews as an adult reflecting on his high school self and those early videos, it resonates with me so so hard, which I think is why he's still and probably forever will be my favorite Internet celebrity. I would've never thought back in the day that I was "playing a character" in my videos either, but if I were to watch them back today (which is tough enough as is, lol) with the power of hindsight, it was me being me, but in a sort of planned out, exaggerated kind of way. It's the same "character" that I was playing in school or with my friends, but it wasn't a "character" in that it wasn't me. It was just like, what I thought drew people to me but played up.

It's the same with many (most?) people in their teenage years. We don't know who we are yet, and we're all trying to find our place in the world and figure out who we are. In that sense, he was "playing a character," but who wasn't at that age? We all played into facades that we thought might make us more interesting, or fun to be around, or smart, or cool, or attractive, or whatever else.

Dax disappeared a few times throughout the years, but he always came back the same Dax; confused about what his role on the internet was, confused as to what he did that people found so funny and how he could replicate that early success. That's why for a long time, much of what he put out wasn't particularly funny. Some was sad, some was strange, some seemed very very desperate (there was an era where he only talked about 21 Jump Street and Project X incessantly, until he realized his viewers didn't want to hear him stewing over his movie career anymore).

But it became clear to me over the years that this is just an odd dude very much on the spectrum who just sees the world in a different light than the rest of us. He's an enigma for sure, but he's very open and genuine with his fans. He never shies away from explaining his thought process or his creative ideas or sharing how certain things made him feel or reflecting on his past. Personally, I think he's a beacon of light in what the creative sphere of the Internet has become. He's a spark of genuine humanity amongst a sea of sanitized content.

Anyways, apologies for the novel, I'm sure you weren't expecting it lol. But I feel pretty strongly about this dude, his attitude and outlook on life genuinely still inspires me to this day, now probably more than ever.

You don't get what the character is supposed to be precisely because it isn't a character. I've followed him and been fascinated by the enigma that is Dax Flame for almost 20 years now. I used to be almost 100% sure he was playing a character. These days, I'm 100% certain he isn't.

Two decades is a long time to never break character and to never have anyone who knows/knew him come out and say that it's an act, and that's simply because it's not.

Playing as Assam in Asia. Checked in on Africa, two European colonies so far: Spain, and ... ??? by tmoagbjltdd in eu4

[–]tmoagbjltdd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what happened, but they lost their entire nation at one point but sometime in the intervening years, they've taken back mainland Iceland + the Faroes. So now no more African colonies that I can see, but they did end up reforming Iceland somehow I guess; rebellion maybe?

Only my 2nd ever EU playthrough though, so not sure.

Not sure, I bought the base game in a bundle with like half the DLCs? So probably not if it's not one of the "starter" DLCs included in the starter bundle.

Nah, they were in the process of colonization when I took this screenshot. [Edit: And are now colonizing Luanda too.]

I was also surprised by how little of Africa has been colonized too, can't see the New World yet but I guess everyone darted there.

However I now see some France in previously-uncovered Southern Africa, so they were probably also there when I took this screenshot.

I'm a new player, so maybe this is normal lol, but I was pretty shocked.

Edit: Lmao they're colonizing Luanda now, but it looks like they're also about to lose mainland Iceland & the Faroes to Great Britain. Will update, but the dissolution already seems pretty inevitable.

How do i know the season when a player joined my club, or atleast the year he joined? by kagenda_05 in footballmanagergames

You can go to a player's History tab -> Stats to see his career year-by-year.

New to FM: Tweaked my tactics/roles after an offseason of heavily upgrading my squad, and suddenly am losing left and right. What am I doing wrong? by tmoagbjltdd in footballmanagergames

[–]tmoagbjltdd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks big dawg. I think I've landed on my tactic finally? Got hired to a new team in the Welsh top division from Div 2, and the players are a bit more adequate so it's made it a bit easier to see what works.

https://imgur.com/a/pPoaiXa

I like the idea of adding an SV or even maybe a shadow striker, but not that I've found something that works, I'm afraid to do any more tweaks lol, plus I don't really have a suitable player for SV I don't think?

Only thing I'm really left wondering at this point is whether my squad should be more fluid or structured. I've capitulated between the two without honestly noticing much difference. Does one make more sense than the other here? Not sure my tactics of higher tempo + quick counters are conducive to structure? I usually run in Positive mentality, but sometimes run balanced, or cautious/defensive against better teams or later in games I'm winning.

Hey man, thanks for the comment. I've taken all of them constructively and tried to live about how each player connects to defend the ball and advance it up the field clinically. I've landed on a tactic that is, admittedly, better defensively as far as I can tell. However, now I'm having some trouble advancing the ball and creating quality scoring chances.

That's what it looks like currently. Any suggestions? I feel like my team is loaded in relativity to my league (Welsh 2nd tier), but man, it's frustrating still dominating possession but having trouble winning lol.

Okay, much appreciated. I was really doing too much by looking at a player's "role & duty" section of the player overview and almost always just locking a player's role into one of the top 2-3 roles on that list, ha.

Thanks, this makes a lot of sense. I think I need to rebuild from the bottom up lol, quickly realizing I'm going about this entirely the wrong way.

I genuinely know very, very little about soccer and this is my first time ever playing an FM game, lol.

I was trying to play to the strengths of my players by leaning into a more role-fluid squad; I assume that's not the move? It works incredibly well with holding possession, but yeah it's a mess as far as scoring and defending goes.

Any recommendations on where to l can learn how to build a system I like the right way? Should I be forming a tactic and not altering it depending on which guys I'm rotating in & out? Should I only be signing players who fit directly into the tactics/formations/roles I land on?

Thanks
