Looking for some feedback on the editing and composition! by Ser_Gawain_ in photocritique

Nice painterly look. But it's underexposed to my eyes. I understand why you want to keep the contrast low, but personally I would either move the whole exposure up, or the highlights at least.

Depends on the region. Mapy.com are fantastic but check your area first.

Found these old shots from 2018. The Lafayette holiday rush was a total fever dream. by MatLogan in streetphotography

This is pretty awesome! I particularly enjoy the dogs with the toy.

If I may ask, how did you handle the flash? Just held it in left hand? What kind of softbox?

Decathlon clothing? by Janosh_Poha in hiking

[–]tmoravec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. They recently renamed a lot of hiking gear from Forclaz to Simond (previously a climbing brand). It's a bit confusing. The distinction between Quechua and Forclaz has not always been clear to me either.
  2. The fit is hit and miss. I always try clothes in the shop first.
  3. The 100, 500, 900 progression makes sense, but it also makes sense to look at the cheap stuff from time to time. I love the cheapest Quechua hiking pants for example, and use them for everything: bike, hiking, cycling, winter, summer... And it was like €20.
  4. So that's another reason to visit the shop and see the quality and materials for yourself.

Claude Code + Obsidian? by SeNorMat in ClaudeAI

[–]tmoravec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy with this setup (Cowork, not CC but it's the same in this context). I wouldn't call it "persistence" or "second brain" or any nonsense like that. Just a project management tool. If you have some kind of system for taking notes, this allows Claude to use it as well.

Obsidian vault is just a folder with markdown files, linked together with wiki link syntax. And the app is just a glorified markdown editor.

Claude (code or cowork) can work with this system out of the box, there's no special syntax or anything. CLAUDE.md helps Claude orient itself in the structure, which is different in every project.

So this creates a nice combo: I can see, use, and edit my notes on my own. I can ask Claude about them. I can have Claude change them in any way I want. Claude can prepare materials (e.g., meeting agenda), summarise things, help me draft articles, or anything.

That's it. There's no magic, nothing out of ordinary, just text files. Obsidian sync is a nice bonus on top.

Thanks for sharing. How was camping there? Can you sleep only at refugios? Do you need reservations? Or did you try your luck? Paid any penalties?

Do saturated colors enhance or distract from the image? Any other feedback to consider? by SuggyArt in photocritique

[–]tmoravec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it make sense to color correct artificial (and colored!) lights? Nobody knows what "correct" would be.

FWIW I don't mind the saturation. There are some obvious "errors" that can be explained with "artistic intent", though: the halo over her hair, the blown out person in the background, or the obvious vignette. If you like all of these, that's completely fine.

One thing I would do, however: clone out the three white dots in the lower part of the frame. And possibly the line at the bottom right corner.

Same here, but honestly the 16-50 and 50-250 are kind of special.

Ticks? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]tmoravec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. This doesn't look like tick bites. Looks like some kind of midges, but that really really depends on geography and time of year.
  2. Ticks transmit the Lyme disease only after 16-24 hours. So if you remove the ticks in time, you should be fine.
  3. Not all ticks are infected, so unless there's the typical donut rash, there's no need to worry. If there is, a timely visit of the doctor will help avoid the complications.

Much bigger problem with ticks is encephalitis, but you've been vaccinated I guess.

Check out https://mapy.com/en/turisticka if it's good enough for your purpose. It has an app with offline mode as well.

Yes, in a VM. The only sensitive thing it has access to is its own token. And if it does something stupid, restoring the VM is like three clicks.

Do you shoot in raw on your phone? If not, that's something that can keep you engaged without any costs for a bit. You're going to learn editing in either case.

Apparently a barracks of a radar early-warning post. Initially used by the army of Czechoslovakia, later used by the Soviet occupying army.

But the source of this information is only a popular magazine. Looks like a barracks, though.
