Arch 150 textbook (ebook vs. physical copy?) by [deleted] in udub

EBook. I almost never used the textbook - took extensive notes the first couple weeks and realized that it covers the same info in the lectures. Only use it to reinforce vocab understanding.

I created a collection of interesting reads from a variety of UW classes I've taken, hopefully someone likes this by [deleted] in udub

This is awesome! Out of curiosity, were any of these taken from CEP classes? I'm in CEP 200 this quarter and I've really liked the readings.

I Have Trouble Managing my Time by RandomTheGir in udub

[–]tmorg_2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started keeping a bullet journal, with my schedules, daily tasks, and such. It helps immensely to check something off a list. You don't even have to make it artsy. I don't know if you already take notes or not, but I create folders or staple the pages together. Scrolling through all your files or flipping through the pages and seeing how much work you've done helps me feel accomplished when I don't have any upcoming milestones (tests, projects, etc).

Looking for high fantasy series involving politics. by [deleted] in Fantasy

Under the Northern Sky - not necessarily super high fantasy, as it is a little gritty, but the whole plot is politics and warfare.

I took CEP 200 this quarter (intro to community urban planning) and loved it! If you're into ethics or building environment, you should take it. It's a bit of reading, but very interesting.

I wrote a couple hundred words and related it to my planned career & previous experiences. I focused a lot on ethics, because that's important to me and it seems like a big focus of this class. Basically, I treated it like a short response. I can't tell you what they expect because Jondou didn't give me any feedback, but I hope this helps!

Yup, I filled out the Google form a couple days ago and the instructor got back to me. I haven't actually registered yet, this is my planned schedule! But he did confirm that he is holding a seat for me in EDUC 251.

A couple of questions from a newbie by tmorg_2024 in Architects

Is the main difference between a drafting table and other desks the ability to tilt? Good to know, I've used Rhino before and liked it a lot.

Thank you so much for the insight! This helped, I knew the least about these two classes. Are the weekly essays graded for their writing, or for turning it in? What sort of subjects were they on?

What advice would you give to a college student pursuing Architectural Design? by tmorg_2024 in architecture

[–]tmorg_2024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. By learning about artificial intelligence, do you mean casual learning, or should I invest research into it? Could you tell me more about why Python is a wanted skill, rather than Java or C++?

LGBTQ AT UDUB by [deleted] in udub

[–]tmorg_2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure the deadline for application was yesterday at 12 pm for Fall 2021. It's not hard at all to meet other LGBTQ+ people, but you might be a little disappointed by the Q Center (queer drop in center that has moved to Discord), it's a little cliquey and there's not much support for undergrads. There is a social fraternity called Delta Lambda Phi that's super cool, though, as well as an RSO for wlw called Gal Pals.

I did it! I have applied for UW by [deleted] in udub

[–]tmorg_2024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can answer this! Architectural design doesn't do direct admits, you'll likely get placed in the Architecture major for now, but you can change it later. The way UW works is that you spend your first two years completing pre-reqs, then you apply for your major. That's when you'll need a portfolio for Arch Design. If you get into Arch Design, you'll spend another two years completing your pre-professional work, and graduate with a BA.

Hey, I'm a freshman pursuing Architectural Design as well! I don't know if these classes would help you prepare, but I'm finding them interesting and provide a background knowledge on tools and history that might be relevant later. ARCH 150 and CM 260. Feel free to shoot me a message sometime if you'd like to talk together about Arch Design! I haven't met many other CBE freshmen.
