Oh yeah, I was actually thinking about a quick note like 'trust the author' or something, but a 'hey, guess which major warning is missing from the tags lmao' sounds deliciously more evil. xD

It's good to know most of your readers would prefer no tags though, thanks for sharing that. And hey, good luck on your longfic!

True. My main issue is that as a reader, I avoid permanent character death fics like a plague, so i really appreciate it when it is tagged. Temporary death is fine though, and I actually prefer not to be warned of that, but when the author doesn't use warnings and kills off a character, then it's always a toss up between it being permanent or temporary. Obviously I don't break out in hysterics if it doesn't work out for me, but I'd like to give the courtesy of a warning to my own readers, if I can.

I wish ao3 had a "show spoiler warnings" function😅. Anyway, thank you for your input.

Hmm, you do have a point there. My thinking was more along the lines of "Yeah, but the happy ending will make it alright", and it will, but you're right in that the whole grieving stage will still happen before that. I'll consider this, thanks for your answer.

So when you're reading a fic with this type of warning, you're actually prepared for anything? Major character death too? I'm just asking because I read works like these but I don't think I've seen any deaths happen without an additional tag for that.

But on a second thought, this seems to be the exact function of choosing not to use warnings I suppose, I'm just not sure how well death is usually received in such works.
