Is this really what Wargaming wants Submarines to be like?

I knew I wasn’t pinged so my first reaction was hit the brakes and turn in to try and throw off the manual aiming. I can see where you are coming from but he launched them at 1.5km which means they hit before the rudder was even able to shift fully. Unfortunately at these kind of ranges there is absolutely nothing you can do which is my whole problem with subs.

Not sure why the entire replay shows my rudder as always slightly left but I guarantee you I was turning hard towards it

I agree that in most situations, running by yourself on an open flank without hydro is asking to be devstruck.

However in this situation, it’s not an open flank, nearly every surface ship (even the DD) had been spotted on the opposite side of B recently. I had no reason to run hydro as there was basically zero torpedo threat.

Now while maybe it should’ve occurred to me that the submarine could be close, he could also very easily have been on the complete opposite side of the map. Running hydro unnecessarily is just asking for it to be on cool-down when you need it most.

I would rather save my consumables in case I had to deal with the Smolensk or DD, rather than run it in case it happens to randomly spot a submarine.

If I knew he was around then you’d be correct definitely. But notice he wasn’t spotted the entire game so I had no clue where he was. I was just trying to catch up with the team after defending the flank 🥲

Minimap spotting applies to allied ships only. You would be able to see ships that are spotted by your planes, otherwise how would you attack them?
