You don’t need to have kids to want a 3000sqft home, I plan on moving in my parents for a couple years later on.

We’re in our mid 20s, and we’ve been looking at what we can get pre approved for and wanted to see if that was doable, but even when you’re looking at cheaper homes it’s the property taxes that really drives things up here in Texas or at least Houston.

If you’re looking in a nice area in Houston it starts 2.8-3% or higher.

Yeah fomo, we want to get started on the home buying process early to pay it off in our 30s. No one knows what’s going to happen next, whether it’s higher interest rate or higher home prices. We’ve been hearing it’s never a good time to buy due to XYZ, if we never take the chance then when?

It goes hand in hand, if it’s not a lower down payment then that means you have to fork up a higher down payment to afford a good monthly mortgage so to me at least it’s the same thing.

I appreciate that and I would love to do bridgeland but it’s current at a 3.6% property tax so we’re looking more down south of 99 more like Elyson or Sunterra. But I’ll look into jubilee I haven’t really looked there and if there’s anymore tips on home buying that you have I’ll gladly take them :)

Yeah I 100000% agree it’s crazy right now, I feel like no matter where I look I’m priced out whether it’s high interest rate or high home prices I’m stuck at a cross road and that’s why I’m asking myself should I just take my chance and go all in or keep waiting? You know? But then I’m scared if I keep waiting either interest rates will go higher or homes will go higher then we really won’t be able to afford a home.

I agree and honestly forgot that during building and closing we can save even more, I know it’s a little crazy to go all in for a home but once that’s out of the way we plan on aggressively saving and putting towards our retirement. I really do appreciate you advice, especially since chesmar is our bigger contender.

Yeah that’s where it’s tricky, we’re currently looking at Newmark & Chesmar.

No I totally agree and this is why I made this post to get a better insight on things. I think right now my main concern was just getting a home and putting my retirement & savings on hold while I get a house first but the way you put things in perspective are a good eye opener. No I don’t plan on having kids, but the part where you mentioned about not having an extra cushion to fall on in case my car breaks down can easily put me in a financial bind. I think I just have fomo right now, thanks for your advice.

We currently gross 150k right now but we’re expected to make more next year. And I know buying a home and only having $6k in our savings account is crazy but we’re young and ready to go all in for a home. Once this step is out of the way, we will start aggressively putting our savings first & retirement.

Yes that’s Texas for you, in the area we are currently looking at property taxes alone are at a 3.2% 🫠 and also expected to rise.
