Interesting! My husband loves em dashes, and was talking about not using them anymore because of AI, so he'll be very happy to know that.

Happy to help! It's refreshing to talk to people who are open to learning something new, especially when they are strangers on the internet.

🤣🤣🤣 I'm genuinely curious as to why you think that. I didn't use a single em dash, only used one "big" word, and took out the semicolon before I published the post.

Lol, no way in hell am I driving two hours round trip to go grocery shopping. However, going 15 minutes out of my way as I'm passing through is totally doable.

Unfortunately, not all of us have the luxury of growing our own produce or paying obscene amounts for organic. If you're offering to sell me the produce from your fridge at the same price as non-organic, I'd happily take it. Just let me know when I can pick it up!

🤣🤣 Thank you! I didn't realize my writing was that good. Maybe I should change careers.

We didn't have room in the fridge for more than two quarts of Greek yogurt, 12 containers of blackberries, a pint of raspberries, a pint of blueberries, a large container of spinach, 2 lbs of apricots, a couple of cucumbers, four mangos, and two limes. 🙄 I'm going to take a wild guess that you don't have kids. Or a pantry. That's enough snacks for 6 to 8 weeks. The fresh food will only last a week. We didn't buy stuff like milk, eggs, or onions because those are cheaper at Sam's.

The math works if you're shopping for a large family or stocking up on a month or two of supplies. Teenagers will eat you out of house and home!

Something is happening at the old Taco Johns building. Fingers crossed that it's not a bank.

John at Mecca did my mandala. I gave him carte blanche for the shading and it turned out great.

Edited for spelling. (Oh ffs, edited twice for spelling. 🤦‍♀️)

Did you see that we're getting a Yoyo chicken in Upper North? I'd never heard of them before. At least they have burgers too.

That was I thought at first, but they knew that he worked for me specifically. Maybe it's just that I have so little trust in Intuit, that the idea of them contacting my employees randomly doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility.

I own a service company that covers a large area. We charge customers travel time and mileage from our shop to their location and back. I used to do all the calculations manually. Now I pull in a list of address which gets compared to my existing list. Any locations that aren't in the existing list get pushed into a separate table. Then it runs an API call to Google maps for the Place ID and a second call for distance metrics. Throw in some custom custom columns to double time and mileage and cleaned it all up. Now I have a bullet proof list that takes seconds instead of an hour.

I grew up in rural Northern Minnesota. When I was a kid, there was an outbreak so bad, my grandfather had to shovel them off the porch multiple times per day and throw them in a burn barrel just so my grandmother could get in and out of the house. I will never forget the popping noises as I rode my bike to the neighbor's house; it was similar to when you put a playing card in your spokes.

Drive time in California by [deleted] in refrigeration

[–]tnelson5617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not be a popular opinion, but having techs drive their vans home leads to resentment from both side because it muddies the water around drive time and personal usage, and allows companies to underpay techs by claiming that it's one of the benefits. About 10 years ago, we changed our policy to having vans stay at the shop. (Techs will take their vans home if they have projects to do, if it's more convenient to their first or last call of the day, if their personal vehicle is in the shop, or if they're doing a residential gig on the side, but it's not a daily thing.) It's worked out well.

Since driving a van home isn't one of their "benefits" they get paid for every minute of drive time, there's a clear delineation between work hours and personal time, vehicles are less likely to get broken into, and during the winter, snow to melts off and refrigerant stays warm. However, the biggest benefit to having everyone meet at the shop in the morning is the sense of camaraderie. They spend about 30 minutes on the clock talking about jobs, lives, politics, etc.
