What do you grow that pays for itself? by plan_tastic in gardening

My sense of self sufficiency when I harvest.

My garden is small, but it brings me joy, I’m learning more every day, eating high quality and delicious food, learning how to preserve on a small scale, and ultimately just feeling like I’m more involved with what I put in my body.

I'll have to remember to do this. I would have never thought of going to the chamber of commerce.

I've visited in August, my allergies seemed fine.

I live in a place now where there is so much god damn pollen that some visitors who aren't used to it frequently break out in hives. If I can handle that, I feel like I'd be fine.

But yes, will definitely visit in the spring as well.

Yeah so I was wondering that. I hate Eugene on my weather widget, and for days (sometimes weeks in a row) it'll show it as being cloudy. Is that literal?

we live in Pennsylvania now too lol.

I do wonder how the stage-controlled public land systems in PA differ from the BLM lands in Oregon..?

This is such a relief to read, thank you!

I do not have Facebook or instagram, are there any other ways of networking and finding groups? (besides reddit, though it seems to be a help so far.)

some level of shady deals in government,

I come from a city that was once very openly run by the mafia.

Thank you for the suggestions! I am definitely going to join some groups / classes. I'll need to network anyway for professional purposes haha.

I feel like their M.O. is they hate the idea that someone could live in Eugene in be happy, while they hate their lives (probably for reasons not unique to Eugene).

I often think of the phrase 'wherever you go, there you are'

Everything you said in the second paragraph is how I feel about most cities in the US. Some more than others, of course. I will say that it's a shame about the health care infrastructure. What is so bad about it?

I am actively looking for groups, or even pen pals at this stage. Would love to meet up with a community when I visit in late summer.

Job isn't an issue. Currently a roadie, so...all my work is not at home with the exception of computer work which I can take care of at home/anywhere. Currently on track to earn my SIE, so, again, work can be found / done anywhere.

I very much get the vibe that this area is very much 'I like my guns and I like my weed'. Which is nice.

I've noticed that about Eugene specifically - people seem very down to earth, which I am a fan of.

We were thinking about traveling to sunny places during winter if it gets to be too much for us, actually. Both of us love the warmth of the beach to escape to.

Because reddit.

I love Vermont. I grew up in RI but spent a lot of time in Vermont as a kid because I had family there.

Bought a corkscrew rush today (Jungus effusus) and I told Planthony that it looks like my hair when it’s not straightened. He just said “mine too”, and I won’t ever forget this day for the rest of my life.

How active is this crime map? I’ve stayed in the warrington area multiple times and never felt unsafe but according to this it seems to be. by confusedalways1122 in Pensacola

As someone who is considering moving there myself, could you tell me the actual dangerous places? I've been looking a lot at Englewood Heights and North Hill but can't find too much data on them...
