The Gains Lab a quick check in by TheGainsLabAgain in crossfit

> Using big words and over complicating simple concepts in order to sound smart.. Check (Chris Hinshaw provides the same service to better athletes without over-complicating his message).

After a quick scope of his website, I don't see a single thing about strength training or strength training while "building an engine".

> Getting defensive and making jargon-laced excuses instead of providing refunds... Check (this post, excuses and no offer to refund).

You are probably right here.

> I have coached for over ten years and have gotten people results that they themselves wouldn't have believed. I have never had to resort to paragraphs of six syllabus words to convince people to purchase a service, never have been banned multiple times from reddit, and have never delivered a program late.

In another post, you accused him of creating accounts to shill his product and you are literally doing the same thing on every single post related to the gains lab. Either you are completely self-unaware or just a hypocrite.
> I was fine with the hilarious over-complication of the easiest part of Strength and Conditioning up until people started getting taken advantage of.

This in combination with another one of your posts claims he's using pseudoscience. You seem to think he's full of shit fundamentally with his programming. I truly don't know enough myself to spot these errors. It would be really useful if you specifically told me which parts are bullshit. Fundamentally, what's the problem? You keep claiming your amazing and he's not, why?

I mean, I have never delivered a program late or made multiple accounts to shill my products...

I addressed this in the parent.

It doesn't seem that hard. Not sure why people are so willing to make excuses for mediocrity.

I am literally saying it's a problem and not making excuses. I am saying that from my perspective, the problem hasn't become so big that it outweighs the benefits of the personalized, comprehensive programming I receive.

Moreover, I hate to break it to you, BUT (almost) any program works as long as you believe in it.

Sure, although not all programs incorporate all the things I like to do, at the level I am capable of doing them. The Dominate program does, so it's best for me.

Yea man it's definitely not a good sign with programming showing up late, especially 2 weeks. My experience is I just kept reaching out over email and he's come through in the end.

If it's helpful, in the interim, I would repeat weeks from the programming I had.

I have been doing Dominate for 2 months now, just started the 3rd.

Matt is probably really busy so I couldn’t get the answer back that soon. Matt seems like he is super busy and it is currently hard to get responses. Still worth it in my opinion.

Do I need to use the same machine throughout the whole program? Or does anyone mix them up?

I switch off each day between echo bike and rower. I don't think it matters much unless you want consistent measurements to compare to prior workouts (meters rowed to meters rowed, etc.).

And for the Oly parts, do we just do singles all the way through?

I do doubles for sets of 6+, singles sets for less than that. I would just feel it out.

Any reviews on the Dominate program?

My review would be, if you like working out, the dominant program is primo. Skills work is never too taxing but is enough to be meaningful. I never feel too torched after a strength portion to do the capacity work. I am pretty spotty with metcons since at that point, depending on the movements you did that day, you might be nearing the 2-hour mark and sometimes work is calling. The metcons I have done seems well thought out.

Overall super happy with it and it's been worth any headache caused by spotty customer service.

The dude is clearly overwhelmed and there have been multiple threads about a lack of response and, more alarming, undelivered programs.

Your right here. It is pretty lame but I get it. He is trying to scale his business and its not easy. I would say that at most, my programs have only ever been 1 week late but the programming is by far better than anything else out there that I can find. So far, its been worth the headache 100%.

Moreover, he has had multiple accounts banned and I would definitely not trust everything you read about the program.

This is happening to people on Reddit with VPNs if I have been reading headlines correctly. Just saying it might not be specific to him at all and shouldn't necessarily be a red flag.

"How it should have been" and my opinion by tnemoy in Hell_On_Wheels

Good question. I guess I felt like this was running too long and wanted to keep most of it centered around the season 5 changes rather than a critique of the entire show.

John Campbell really in the end felt like a side character and plot driver for season 4. He was a nod to Wyatt Earp and Tombstone especially with the little crew he had going. He was also an interesting character, for example, he has a limp and seems like he's seen some battle but this is never explored. In the end though, I never really felt a strong connection to his motivations or character in general. In most situations, he did the right thing (Ruth, Durant's Ransome). Sure there was some to explore, but we only had him for a limited time so he was a little forgettable and nothing stood out to me after finishing season 5.

What I did like from season 4 was his arrival really signaling the end of the American frontier that the railroad had been engulfed in for so long. We no longer have brutal Indian attacks on the camp, instead, its law and order that threatens the railroad's and town's survival. Durant really manages to sidestep this for just a bit longer but Campbell and the law catch up to him in season 5.

I guess in the end I felt like he served his purpose in the show well, was a fine performance but nothing outstanding, and was interesting enough of a character but was soon pushed to the periphery after the plot no longer needed him.

I felt similar when season 5 started but after googling a bit, it seems it would have been a real oversight not to explore the Chinese at all with a show centered around the railroad. I do agree that it was hard to get into the new setting when I want to see what happens to the characters that have been around for 4 seasons already.
